PRETRIAL RELEASE OFFICER I (PART-TIME)

Title: Pretrial Release Officer I (Part‑time) | Department: Pretrial – Court Services | Salary: $29.51 per hour | Closing date: June 24, 2026 Job Summary The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to interviewing defendants and issuing release orders for defendants who meet the stipulations of the Pretrial Services Program. Responsibilities include conducting counseling sessions, qualifying defendants for pretrial release interviews, and providing referrals to social/rehabilitative agencies. This class is distinguished from Pretrial Release Officer II in that this classification conducts interviews, assesses eligibility, and issues release orders for defendants, whereas the latter tracks cases for defendants and provides lead direction to assigned staff. Essential Duties Conduct interviews with defendants in County jail: gather defendant’s demographic information, employment history, criminal history, driving records, and other pertinent information; complete the intake process; verify references; and determine if clients are candidates for the pretrial release program. Make recommendations and resolve problems. Meet with released defendants to discuss rules and conditions governing their release. Prepare for bond hearings: prepare bond assessment reports containing criminal history and reference information; make recommendations regarding release of defendants; and remove defendants in violation of the release from their original bond. Assist pretrial program participants in resolving and/or handling problems: conduct counseling sessions and provide referrals to social/rehabilitative agencies. Process a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures, including GClC and local criminal histories, external reports, bench warrants, veteran status reports, and drug screenings; review, complete, process, forward or retain as appropriate; prepare or complete various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including Public Defender Application. Compile data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; maintain computerized and/or hardcopy records. Enter or retrieve, modify data utilizing the unified database Odyssey, word‑processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e‑mail, or other similar software; operate general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions; and communicate with supervisor, other employees, and defendants. Qualifications Knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the area of assignment; understanding of basic mathematics; principles and practices of filing and basic records management; general office practices, procedures, equipment, and technology. Skill in delivering high‑quality, customer‑focused service; scheduling meetings, appointments, and special events; creating and maintaining specialized filing systems and records; using spreadsheet, database, word‑processing, presentation, and other software to gather, organize, and present information; building sustainable working relationships with other county personnel, officials, and the public; communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisor, and the public; generating enthusiasm and support for program objectives. Ability to effectively present information in court proceedings. Ability to work independently. Excellent communication skills. Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a related field required; supplemented by one year of experience working in law enforcement or with a court program, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
