Duties

This is an Excepted Service position. This appointment will not confer Competitive Service career-conditional or career tenure status. This means that if you are selected, you would have to compete with other applicants in open competition to meet requirements for another Federal position, unless you meet the requirements for reinstatement. Applicants who voluntarily convert from the competitive service, Senior Executive Service, or other pay systems to a non-time limited appointment under this excepted service authority are not afforded "fallback rights" to the pay system previously assigned prior to conversion.

As a full performance GS-13, Security Specialist, you will:

• Assess proposed security orders, plans, and guidelines to determine their operational impact and identify requirements for protecting classified information and nuclear materials.
• Deliver expert technical advice and policy interpretations on physical, industrial, and information security to Headquarters, field offices, contractors, and external agencies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of security conditions across Department facilities to identify protective vulnerabilities and consult on physical security strategies.
• Research information, personnel, and equipment systems to support threat assessments and protect Department assets from hostile or malevolent actions.
• Partner with the National Training Center and other departments to develop, interpret, and monitor Department-wide safeguards and security training programs.
• Provide policy input and coordinate efforts for field surveys, official inspections, site self-assessments, and facility evaluations.
