Shipper/Receiver I

Pay Rate: $19.80/hour
Shift: 2nd Shift (2:00 pm – 10:30 pm)
Location : Mechanicsburg, PA 
Monday-Ffriday Day

Kelly Services is hiring a Temporary Shipping & Receiving role for an Aerospace Company in Mechanicsburg, PA

Requirements:

• Packing experience
• Computer proficiency
• Proficiency in English (written and reading)
• Forklift experience not required
• SAP and manufacturing experience considered a plus

Summary
The Shipper/Receiver I performs all functions associated with material movement through the distribution center, including material handling, paperwork, and recordkeeping. Operates powered order pickers, forklifts, turret trucks, electric/manual pallet jacks, stretch wrapping machines, laser scanners, etc. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights up to 30 ft. Follows all distribution center procedures and demonstrates an understanding of standards and goals to achieve total customer satisfaction. Performs all functions accurately and in a timely manner. Responsible for knowing and confirming quality, environmental, health, and safety policies.

Receiving/Put Away

• Loads and unloads trucks and interfaces with common carriers.
• Signs bill of lading for incoming shipments and processes packing lists for receipts from vendors using SAP.
• Checks incoming products against documentation to verify accuracy, sorts products, and prepares for put away.
• Receives products into SAP using barcode scanners or computers.
• Puts products away in available space by proper area/zone using order pickers, turret trucks, pallet jacks, and barcode scanners.
• Breaks down/lumps floor-loaded containers.

Picking

• Picks products for customer orders, manufacturing orders, and sample requests using barcode scanners, pick tickets, shipping papers, order pickers, turret trucks, and manual/electric pallet jack.
• Performs put away and pick duties such as bin location audits, unit load, and carton transfers.
• Weighs or hand counts quantities needed to fill customer orders and sample requests.

Packing

• Performs packing functions by reviewing SAP packing functions or ship sets to obtain packaging instructions.
• Performs special packaging, prints and applies special labeling as required by each customer.
• Understands and follows packaging specifications.
• Recognizes hazardous/flammable material and prepares shipment per established procedures.

Shipping

• Prepares cartons and pallet loads for shipment by attaching proper shipment documentation as well as carrier-required documentation.
• Prepares unit load shipments with stretch wrap or banding.
• Generates manifests and bill of lading for each shipment, checking against actual carton count in staging area.
• Contacts common carriers to arrange pickup for shipments.
• Loads and unloads cartons to and from pallets, carts, or conveyors using forklift and manual or electric pallet jack.

Lifting and Material Handling

• Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Occasionally lift materials weighing 51–75 lbs with mechanical assistance or team lifting.
• Perform repetitive lifting motions throughout 8–12-hour shifts.
• Move materials from floor level to overhead heights up to 30 feet using mechanical equipment.
• Maintain proper lifting posture: bend at knees, keep back straight, use legs for power.
• Grip and manipulate objects of varying sizes, weights, and shapes.

Physical Stamina and Mobility

• Stand and walk on concrete floors for extended periods (6–10 hours continuously).
• Climb stairs and ladders to access elevated storage areas up to 30 feet.
• Climb up into the operator’s seat for all types of powered vehicles (order pickers, turret trucks, sit-down forklift).
• Maintain balance while operating elevated equipment.
• Walk extended distances throughout the warehouse (potentially 5–10 miles per shift).
• Perform repetitive bending, stooping, squatting, and reaching motions.
• Work in confined spaces when loading/unloading trailers.

Manual Dexterity and Coordination

• Operate handheld barcode scanners with precision and speed.
• Manipulate small parts and components for counting and sorting.
• Use fine motor skills for packaging, labeling, and documentation tasks.
• Coordinate hand-eye movements while operating powered industrial equipment.
• Type and navigate computer systems and SAP software interfaces.

Sensory Requirements

• Visual acuity sufficient to read small print on labels, part numbers, and documentation.
• Color vision to distinguish product identification systems and safety signals.
• Hearing ability to detect equipment alarms, backup signals, and verbal communications.
• Spatial awareness to safely navigate warehouse aisles and operate equipment.

Environmental Exposures

• Work in varying temperature conditions (potentially 40&degree;F to 90&degree;F depending on season).
• Exposure to dust, cardboard particles, and packaging materials.
• Work around moving machinery and powered industrial equipment.
• Exposure to diesel exhaust from trucks and equipment.
• Work in areas with varying noise levels requiring hearing protection.
• Potential exposure to hazardous materials requiring proper PPE protocols.

Equipment Operation Requirements

• Physical capability to safely operate forklifts, turret trucks, and order pickers.
• Ability to maintain control of equipment while elevated up to 30 feet.
• Hand and foot coordination for simultaneous equipment controls.
• Reaction time sufficient to respond to emergency situations.
• Ability to perform pre-operational equipment inspections.

Shift and Schedule Demands

• Ability to work flexible schedules—including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Maintain productivity and safety standards during extended shifts.
• Adapt to varying workload demands and peak season requirements.
• Sustain consistent performance throughout shift duration.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements

• Wear steel-toed safety shoes throughout entire shift.
• Use safety harnesses and fall protection equipment when working at heights.
• Wear high-visibility clothing in designated areas.
• Use hearing protection in high-noise environments.
• Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling materials with sharp edges.

Ergonomic Considerations

• Ability to alternate between different physical tasks to minimize repetitive stress.
• Maintain neutral body postures while performing routine tasks.
• Use proper body mechanics when transitioning between sitting and standing positions.

Education: High School diploma or higher
Experience: 1 year in high volume distribution centers or logistics industry

Skills and Knowledge:

• Computer and SAP software proficiency
• Operation of power industrial trucks (forklift, turret truck, order picker)
• Flexible scheduling

Safety:

• Effective communication
• Use of PPE (steel toe shoes required)
• Follow internal safety requirements
• Immediate reporting of incidents and unsafe conditions
• Ability to multitask, focusing on meeting goals safely and correctly
• Attend internal safety training
• Participate in internal safety and environmental tasks, including inspection of trailers, fall protection systems, and industrial equipment
• Use proper lifting postures and techniques (ergonomics)
