Position Overview
A growing, well-capitalized energy investment firm is seeking an Asset Manager to help evaluate, manage, and optimize a growing portfolio of upstream oil & gas investments.


This position will sit at the intersection of engineering, finance, investing, and asset management. The Asset Manager will work closely with the investment and technical teams to evaluate opportunities, understand asset performance, support investment decisions, and help maximize value across the portfolio.


The firm is highly active across operated, non-operated, and minerals investments and has significant capital available for deployment. Over the last several years, the organization has completed hundreds of transactions while screening thousands of opportunities.


This is an opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond a narrowly defined engineering, banking, or investing role and gain broader exposure to the full lifecycle of upstream investments.



Key Responsibilities


• Manage and evaluate upstream oil & gas investments across the firm's portfolio.
• Monitor asset performance, production, capital activity, operating results, and financial performance.
• Develop financial and economic analyses to evaluate asset performance and investment returns.
• Work with engineering, land, finance, and investment professionals to identify opportunities to improve asset value.
• Evaluate operator plans, development programs, capital budgets, forecasts, and operating performance.
• Support the evaluation and underwriting of new acquisition and investment opportunities.
• Assist with asset-level forecasting, budgeting, valuation, and investment analysis.
• Identify operational, technical, and financial risks and communicate their potential impact on investment performance.
• Participate in portfolio reviews and provide recommendations regarding capital allocation and asset strategy.
• Support acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic initiatives across the portfolio.
• Develop materials and analysis for senior leadership and investment decision-making.
• Maintain an active understanding of basin activity, operators, transactions, commodity markets, and broader upstream trends.


Candidate Profile


• 5+ years of relevant upstream oil & gas experience.
• Strong understanding of upstream asset economics and the factors that drive value.
• Ability to analyze an asset from both a technical and financial perspective.
• Strong financial modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable operating in a lean environment with significant individual ownership.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical and financial information clearly.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in investing, transactions, and asset-level decision-making.


Potential Backgrounds
The firm is intentionally open-minded regarding background. Strong candidates could come from several paths, including:


• Production or Reservoir Engineer who has transitioned into private equity, investing, corporate development, or another commercially focused role.
• Engineer with strong financial modeling and investment acumen who wants to move closer to the investment side.
• Investment Banking professional with meaningful upstream oil & gas transaction experience who wants to transition into principal investing and asset management.
• Private Equity / Energy Investment professional with strong technical understanding and experience evaluating or managing upstream investments.
• Other upstream finance professionals with the combination of technical understanding, financial analysis, and commercial judgment necessary to manage investments.


Platform & Growth
The firm has built a significant investment platform with substantial capital available for deployment across multiple upstream strategies.



Current initiatives include:


• Active minerals investment strategy with several hundred million dollars of committed capital
• Plans to deploy more than $1 billion of capital over the next several years
• Plans to raise a large-scale non-operated investment fund
• Hundreds of transactions completed in recent years with a significantly larger number of opportunities evaluated


The combination of active investing, portfolio growth, and multiple investment strategies provides the Asset Manager with exposure to both new transactions and ongoing asset-level decision-making.
