OVERVIEW : The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21.Job Title:Shared Reading Project TutorWorker Type:Fixed Term (Fixed Term)Pay Type:HourlyExempt Status:NoCompensation Grade (Track/Level):TWHiring Range (Commensurate with experience and qualifications):Salary Ranges (All Compensation Grades) :Clerc CenterSupervisory Organization (Department):Family Education - JMSummary:Supporting Clerc Center on an on-call basis.Job Description:Primary Responsibilities:Serve as a tutor to families with deaf children.Work with families teaching different strategies on how to read aloud books to their deaf child, using the 15 principles in shared reading.Potential tutors must be able to observe parents reading to their child and then give feedback to families related to different reading strategies.Maintain activity logs and time sheets. Training will be provided on the 15 principles of reading to deaf children.Qualifications:High School diploma or GED requiredMust have experience working with adults and children in a variety of settings.Excellent interpersonal skills required.Must be able to provide own transportation.Fluency in American Sign Language required.Application Information:Up-to-date ResumeEmployment Information:Employment Dates: September 21, 2026 – May 31, 2027Required Orientation Training: Dates to be announcedAll employees hired must undergo and pay for a background investigation if selected for the job and must be cleared before starting first day on the job.
