Fire Recruit (Paramedic)

THIS POSITION IS FOR FIRE RECRUIT (PARAMEDIC)
THIS JOB POSTING WILL AUTOMATICALLY CLOSE UPON THE RECEIPT OF 250 APPLICATIONS OR AT THE FINAL FILING DEADLINE, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. Eligibility Location : California residents only. FCTC Statewide Eligibility List (SEL) : Must be listed on the SEL as of July 20, 2026. Age : 21 years or older by completion of the Academy. Education : High school diploma or GED. Driver’s license : Valid California Class C license. CPAT Certificate : Issued within the past 12 months of the final filing date. FCTC Written Test : Passing score 70% or above within the past 12 months of the final filing date. Paramedic License : Valid California or National Registry Paramedic license. Additional Qualifications Completion of Phase I Emergency Vehicle Operation Course (EVOC). Possession of a valid EMT certificate with Sacramento County EM Service endorsement. Pass a medical examination and drug test. Pass a comprehensive background investigation (criminal history, fingerprinting, psychological test, credit check, drug use history). Responsibilities Attend and complete the Sacramento Fire Department’s Fire Academy, including classroom instruction and hands‑on training. Study and apply fire science, firefighting methods, and safety practices. Complete coursework, homework, quizzes and examinations. Train in defensive driving, apparatus operation, equipment maintenance, ladder use, salvage and overhaul operations, and basic emergency medical procedures. Participate in physical fitness training and maintain required fitness standards. Learn and follow the organization, chain of command, policies, procedures, and regulations of the Sacramento Fire Department. Timeline Application opens: July 6, 2026 Deadline for filing: July 20, 2026 Review of minimum qualifications: July 27, 2026 Interview: Week of August 17, 2026 Conditional job offer/background process starts: Week of September 14, 2026 Background process completed: Week of December 14, 2026 Fire Recruit Academy starts: January 4, 2027 Fire Recruit Academy graduation: May 27, 2027 Note : Successful completion of the Academy is required for advancement to the career classification of Firefighter (EMT or Paramedic).
