The City of Wilton Manors is currently accepting applications for certified police officer applicants. Officers who are already certified police officers at the time of hire by the City of Wilton Manors will receive a $5,000 signing bonus paid upon successful completion of Field Training. Newly-certified officers in the State of Florida or out-of-state candidates may be eligible for an additional $5,000 provided by the State of Florida.

Salary - Certified Police Officer Starting salaries for Certified Police Officer:

- $71,055 with less than 5 years of experience - $77,690 with 5 to 10 years of experience (Step 2) - $84,944 with 10 or more years of experience (Step 4)

Top out salary for Certified Police Officer: $111,034

Under direction, performs general duty police work involving crime detection, prevention, and investigation. Employee functions at journey level to perform law enforcement duties and is responsible for protecting the lives and property of all citizens within the assigned patrol area. Position is accountable for enforcing all laws and responding to various violations and traffic infractions appropriately. Employee must be capable of reacting with considerable independent judgment and initiative in dealing with routine and emergency situations within the scope of established laws, and all applicable rules, regulations, and procedures of the Police Department. Performs related duties, as necessary.

The City of Wilton Manors is an active community with a small town feel that offers the following benefits:

Vacation: 80 hours for 1-5 years employment, 120 hours for 5-9 years employment, 160 hours for 10-15 years employment, 200 hours for 15+ years employment. Carry-over at end of year 300 hours

Sick Leave: 12 days per year, unlimited. At resignation/retirement/termination: after 10 years employment, 50% of total hours up to 500 hours - after 20 years employment, 100% of total hours up to 500 hours. Five days bereavement leave for immediate family. Sick leave bank

Holidays: 11 holidays in each calendar year

Personal Days: 2 personal days in each calendar year

Insurance: Health, dental, and life City pays. Long-term disability City pays 50%. Dependent insurance City pays 50%. Vision insurance Paid by employee. Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Tuition: Reimbursed at 100% of State tuition

COLA or Wage Adjustment / Merit Increases: Set by contract

Uniforms: Provided by City, including weapon; uniform cleaning provided by City

Pension: The City of Wilton Manors is a member of the Florida Retirement System (FRS) for all new hires. A retired officer can collect 3% per year of his/her average highest 5 years of salary at age 60, or after 30 total years of special risk service. FRS members can participate in a Deferred Retirement Option Plan (DROP) offering a lump sum in addition to monthly retirement payments.

Vehicles: City provides take-home vehicle for officers with fuel, maintenance, and insurance costs paid for by City following the successful completion of the initial Field Training program.

Envision Your Career Here For non-certified applicants, your career will begin with extensive training at the Broward College Institute of Public Safety located in Davie. During the 22-week Police Academy, you will learn an array of subjects that will build your foundation preparing you to join our force as a certified police officer. Following successful completion of the Police Academy, you will enter an 18-week Field Training program learning alongside our experienced Field Training Officers who will provide training, guidance and support. As your career evolves, you will be provided opportunities for promotion, and also qualify to perform in specialized areas such as K-9, community policing, marine patrol, criminal investigations and more.
