Project Electrical Engineer - BESS Date: Jun 30, 2026 Location: Overland Park, KS, US; Jacksonville, FL, US; Phoenix, AZ, US; Bloomington, MN, US; Orlando, FL, US; Houston, TX, US; Dallas, TX, US; Ann Arbor, MI, US Company: Black & Veatch Family of Companies Opportunity In this role you will have the opportunity to: Lead electrical design for Battery Energy System Storage (BESS) facilities Manage electrical engineering staff on diverse and challenging projects across our portfolio of design services and EPC programs Oversee electrical design quality, budget, and schedule Build business relationships with clients to understand needs and drivers Key Responsibilities Continuously develop knowledge and provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, engineering codes, and Black & Veatch policies. Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines. Independently apply knowledge within Black & Veatch’s quality program and may be responsible for ensuring compliance. Provide guidance to others and support continuous improvement and change management efforts. Prepare complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects. Perform research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods. Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Actively delegate tasks to develop depth of project execution staff. Review lower‑level engineering work. Lead production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activity, or serve as responsible charge for a project. Coordinate with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects. Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on low‑to‑moderately complex projects and communicate these to the project team, developing approaches to accommodate concerns. Provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area. Design a complete project of moderately complex scope or support multiple projects, and apply advanced engineering concepts to unique problems. Mentor lower‑level professionals, recognize performance, and participate in career planning, learning and development. Identify successors to train in the specifics of their roles. Manage engineering resources for small groups of a single discipline. Perform administrative responsibilities, including ensuring effective implementation of policies, procedures and processes, adherence to corporate and division programs, and approving timesheets and expense reports. Preferred Qualifications Electrical Professional Engineer’s license in a US jurisdiction Consulting experience (BESS experience preferred) EPC execution experience Strong communication skills, both with internal interdisciplinary teams and external client and construction teams Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
