Special Education Learning Specialist - Middle School

KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of 18 free, public charter schools in NewYork City. Position Overview KIPP NYC Special Education Teachers work closely both as a team and with General Education Teachers to plan targeted, high‑leverage interventions for their students. Our Special Education Teachers first diagnose student challenges and then design individualized programs and differentiated strategies to meet specific needs. The team serves students with IEPs, diagnosed disabilities, and those identified as at‑risk. Duties and Responsibilities Teach a rigorous college‑preparatory curriculum that blends the school’s standards with New York State standards. Deliver instruction in a high‑quality, engaging manner. Commit to continuous professional and personal growth through collaboration with a team of teachers. Use data to drive instructional decisions. Continuously assess student progress and communicate results to families and colleagues. Provide individual or small‑group instruction for students needing additional assistance. Model a “whatever it takes” spirit to ensure each student’s success. Model the school’s values in all communications with students, families, and staff. Qualifications Strong interpersonal skills that foster a collegial environment and embody characteristics such as zest, grit, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor. At least two years of teaching experience is strongly preferred. New York State Special Education teacher certification is highly recommended. Bachelor’s degree required. A passion for being part of a team‑oriented, mission‑driven school culture. A strong desire to become a better teacher by joining the KIPP NYC team. Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students from the communities KIPP NYC serves. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary ranging from $70,829‑$136,704, determined by an equitable compensation scale that accounts for experience, certification, and longevity within the KIPP network.
