Upper School Mental Health Counselor / Social Worker Classification: Exempt. Reports to: Upper School Co‑Head, Clinical. Annual salary range: $60,000 - $89,000. Position Summary Provide individual and group counseling to upper school students in grades 6‑12, supervise psychosocial teachers, interns and externs, and deliver psychosocial support and instruction throughout the school day in collaboration with faculty. Responsibilities Provide individual and group counseling to students. Offer psychosocial support in integrated contexts across the school day. Co‑lead social cognition and academic seminar groups and give psychosocial guidance in classrooms. Co‑teach seminars with academic teachers, integrating psychosocial concepts with academic content. Conduct risk assessments with supervision as required. Identify goals with students’ teams, develop a Daily Report Card, and revise goals collaboratively. Supervise psychosocial teachers, interns and externs, ensuring responsibilities and data tracking. Apply executive‑function frameworks consistently in treatment planning and intervention. Use evidence‑based practices for gifted and twice‑exceptional learners. Engage in ongoing professional development related to executive function, gifted education and neurodiversity. Maintain progress notes and schedule monthly collaborative calls with outside providers and parents. Participate actively in weekly supervision meetings. Advise and coach teachers and staff on students’ therapeutic needs, psychosocial curriculum and best practices. Use GSuite (Google Drive) for documentation and collaboration. Attend faculty and staff meetings, professional development sessions and required special events. Perform other duties as assigned. Competencies Passion for working with children. Required Education and Experience Master’s degree in mental health counseling, social work or related field. New York State license in the professional field or eligibility to pursue licensure, and a New York State limited practice permit. School‑based experience with middle‑school or high‑school population. One year of paid experience with students who have emotional, social or learning differences. Knowledge of evidence‑based treatment, particularly CBT and DBT. Interpersonal style that builds consensus and facilitates constructive problem‑solving. Preferred Education and Experience Experience working with twice‑exceptional youth. Work Environment and Physical Demands Job performed in a school setting on the ground, fifth and sixth floors with an elevator. Occasional travel to the Lower School campus (approximately two blocks away). Regular talking and listening, continuous standing, walking and stair climbing; occasional lifting of items under 20lb. Typing required. Reasonable accommodations available. Position Type and Hours Full‑time exempt position. Eight‑hour day, Monday‑Friday, 8am‑4pm. Ten‑month academic year (late August to late June). Occasional evening or weekend events (roughly three per year). Compensation and Benefits Salary dependent on experience and credentials.
