Environmental Scientist

Conducts tests and field investigations to obtain data in determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water, and soil ensuring all city, state, and federal environmental regulations are met.

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Conducts chemical laboratory tests, according to work instructions, to determine characteristics of solid or liquid substances.

2. Prepare chemical samples, test for appropriate chemical concentrations, and record data on proper forms.

3. Operate filter press to remove solids from waste water.

4. Operate forklift as needed.

5. May operate Scanacon, and make the changers if necessary.

6. May maintain process tanks to ensure proper concentrations and temperatures.

7. May perform other duties as required or requested by the lead man.

8. May participate on project teams as requested.

9. Keeps work area clean and orderly. Responsible for conducting all work in a safe manner.

10. Need to know how to load, and unload trucks.

11. Need to know how to calibrate PH probes.

12 Need to maintain proper PH that goes back to Metro.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, policies, and procedures. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, or employees. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, whole numbers, fractions, & decimals. Ability to compute and interpret statistical data. Knowledge of personal computers.
