Director OF Financial Reporting

Overview The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is seeking a Director of Financial Performance and Analytics to serve as a strategic financial analyst and reporting leader for the athletics department, supporting data driven decision making through the development of financial reporting, business intelligence dashboards, and performance analytics. This position plays a critical role in budget planning, monitoring, and process improvement by transforming financial and operational data into meaningful insights for departmental leadership. This role will oversee the creation and maintenance of key financial reports, monitor transactional data quality, and identify trends that improve fiscal accountability and operational efficiency. The Director will continually evolve reporting processes while developing tools that enhance transparency and support long term strategic planning. Key Responsibilities Lead the development, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the department's financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes to support strategic decision making and fiscal accountability. (30%) Assist with the development, monitoring, and ongoing management of the department's annual operating budget and financial forecasting processes. Create and distribute recurring financial reports related to budget variance, expense workflow tracking, and operational performance metrics. Monitor financial transactions and data quality to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance across departmental systems. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities through financial analysis and provide recommendations that improve budget planning and resource allocation. Support long-range financial planning through timely and accurate reporting. Develop and maintain executive-level financial dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business intelligence tools that provide meaningful insights for departmental leadership. (25%) Develop and maintain executive-level KPI reports and interactive dashboards that support strategic business operations and informed decision making. Maintain, enhance, and evolve the department's Budget Scorecard Power BI dashboard to provide real-time financial visibility for leadership. Collaborate with departmental leadership to establish meaningful financial metrics aligned with organizational goals and strategic initiatives. Deliver financial reporting solutions that improve transparency and support executive decision making. Partner with internal stakeholders to enhance reporting capabilities, automate financial processes, and improve operational efficiency through business intelligence and technology solutions. (20%) Partner with internal stakeholders to automate reporting processes and reduce manual workload through business intelligence tools, AI utilization, and other process improvements. Evaluate existing reporting processes and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and consistency. Collaborate across departments to improve data integrity and reporting effectiveness. Support the implementation of technology solutions that strengthen financial operations and reporting capabilities. Analyze financial performance and develop reporting tools that support operational planning, resource allocation, and continuous improvement. (15%) Develop and maintain event-specific Profit & Loss statements to evaluate financial performance and inform future operational decisions. Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends and opportunities for improved resource utilization. Provide financial modeling and analytical support for departmental initiatives and strategic planning. Prepare executive-level analyses and presentations that communicate key financial insights. Provide ongoing financial analysis, special project support, and leadership in advancing the department's reporting and analytics capabilities. (10%) Support special projects, financial modeling, and executive presentations as assigned. Assist departmental leadership with ad hoc financial reporting and analytical requests. Identify opportunities to strengthen financial reporting processes and support continuous improvement initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned in support of Athletics operations and strategic objectives. Shift Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm; Nights, Weekends, and Travel as required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or a related field. Experience in higher education or collegiate athletics business operations. Experience with ERP or financial management systems. Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning methodologies. Experience creating executive dashboards and performance metrics.
