Vice President, Director of Residential Lending

As Torrington Savings Bank continues to strengthen its residential mortgage and consumer lending capabilities, we are seeking an experienced lending leader to provide strategic direction, drive sustainable growth, and deliver high-quality lending solutions that meet customer needs and support the Bank’s long-term objectives.

The Vice President, Director of Residential Lending is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, and overall performance of the Bank’s residential mortgage and consumer lending functions. This role oversees loan origination, underwriting, approvals, pipeline activity, portfolio performance, products, pricing, technology platforms, and related vendor relationships while ensuring sound credit decisions, regulatory compliance, operational effectiveness, and exceptional customer experience.

The Director will develop and execute lending strategies, programs, and initiatives that support growth, profitability, and the Bank’s market position. The role serves as the Bank’s residential lending subject matter expert, advises management on complex lending matters, and uses market insights, reporting, dashboards, and performance indicators to guide decisions and recommend improvements.

This position leads and develops Mortgage Loan Officers and Residential Underwriters, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and customer-focused culture. The ideal candidate combines deep residential lending expertise with strong leadership, relationship-management, business-development, analytical, and decision-making skills. Reports to the Senior Vice President, Chief Consumer Banking Officer.

Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities: · 

• Provide strategic leadership for residential mortgage and consumer lending, ensuring alignment with the Bank’s mission, business objectives, risk standards, and customer service expectations.
• Develop and execute lending strategies, products, programs, and initiatives that support growth, profitability, operational effectiveness, and long-term market position.
• Monitor market conditions, customer needs, production trends, referral activity, pipeline performance, and portfolio results to identify opportunities, manage risk, and guide business decisions.
• Serve as the Bank’s residential lending subject matter expert, advising management on complex lending matters, policy interpretation, loan structure, and exception requests.
• Grow residential mortgage and consumer lending activity through business development, customer relationship management, referral-source engagement, and community partnerships.
• Oversee loan origination, underwriting, approvals, pipeline activity, and portfolio performance, including reviewing and approving loans within delegated authority.
• Maintain effective lending policies, procedures, underwriting guidelines, approval authorities, and controls that support safe, consistent, and compliant lending practices.
• Lead, coach, and develop Mortgage Loan Officers and Residential Underwriters while supporting recruiting, onboarding, performance management, succession planning, and talent development.
• Oversee residential lending products, pricing, program performance, technology platforms, and vendor relationships, including Encompass and MortgageBot.
• Develop performance indicators and use reporting, dashboards, and analytics to improve workflows, customer experience, and business results; present recommendations to management, committees, and the Board as appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; support quality-control activities, audits, examinations, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
• Identify and address operational, compliance, credit, and reputational risks within the residential lending function.

Requirements:

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of seven years of residential mortgage lending experience, including origination, underwriting, and leadership responsibilities.
• Extensive knowledge of residential mortgage lending, consumer lending, underwriting standards, secondary-market requirements, mortgage-insurance guidelines, and applicable lending regulations.
• Demonstrated leadership, relationship-management, business-development, and performance-management skills.
• Experience with Encompass, MortgageBot, and other residential lending technology platforms preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Active NMLS registration required.

Annual Salary Range: $143,000 - $228,000

The base salary range displayed represents the expected budget for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation packages are finalized at the offer stage and are determined by a variety of factors. The starting salary will be based on the following, but not limited to, the candidate’s specific work experience, job-related knowledge, education, specialized skills, certifications, and internal pay equity across our current team.
