Director of Finance

Company Description SERC (State Education Resource Center) is a quasi-public agency primarily funded by the Connecticut State Department of Education. SERC delivers job-embedded technical assistance and training directly within schools, programs, and districts to strengthen educational outcomes. Role Description The Director of Finance is a full‑time, on‑site position based in Waterbury, CT, responsible for overseeing all financial operations of SERC. This role manages budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with funding requirements. The Director of Finance supervises the preparation, analysis, and presentation of financial statements and reports for leadership, the Board, and external stakeholders. Daily activities include monitoring cash flow, managing grants and contracts from the Connecticut State Department of Education and other sources, overseeing internal controls, and supporting audits. The role collaborates with executive leadership on strategic financial decisions, leads the finance team, and implements policies and systems that promote transparency, accuracy, and effective stewardship of resources. Qualifications Strong Finance and Financial Planning skills, including experience in budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation. Proficiency in Financial Statements and Financial Reporting, with the ability to prepare, interpret, and present complex financial data. Advanced Analytical Skills to evaluate trends, assess risks, and support data-informed decision‑making. Experience in public or nonprofit finance, preferably within education or government‑funded organizations. Knowledge of grant management, compliance requirements, and audit processes. Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities, with a collaborative and inclusive approach. Excellent communication skills for working with diverse stakeholders, including boards, agencies, and internal teams.
