Mercy Pediatrics in O'Fallon is seeking a compassionate, patient-focused Certified Medical Assistant to join our busy pediatric practice. The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and advanced practice providers in delivering quality patient care. Under the supervision of providers and clinic leadership, this position supports both clinical and administrative functions to ensure efficient clinic operations and excellent patient service.

Clinical duties include collecting and documenting patient information regarding health status and concerns, preparing patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments, assisting physicians and nurse practitioners during exams and procedures, performing direct patient care activities as directed, documenting patient information accurately in the electronic medical record, collecting, labeling, and submitting laboratory specimens as ordered, performing EKGs accurately and according to established protocols, providing patient education materials and reinforcing provider instructions, maintaining infection prevention and safety standards, and monitoring, maintaining, and stocking clinical equipment and supplies.

Administrative duties include managing daily patient messages and maintaining the provider In-Basket, answering phones professionally and accurately routing messages, greeting patients and families in a friendly, compassionate manner, scheduling, rescheduling, confirming, and following up on appointments, completing patient registration and verifying demographic and insurance information, obtaining referrals and prior authorizations as required by insurance plans, processing medical records requests according to policy, collecting co-payments, co-insurance, and other patient payments, accurately handling cash, checks, and credit card transactions, answering basic patient billing and account questions, and assisting in resolving patient concerns and complaints.

Team and professional responsibilities include demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a pediatric clinic environment, working collaboratively to support clinic goals and patient care needs, serving as a positive team member and role model for coworkers, maintaining HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality, adhering to ethical standards related to healthcare reimbursement and compliance, participating in ongoing education, in-services, and training opportunities, and performing other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, completion of an accredited Medical Assistant education program, current Medical Assistant Certification, current CPR Certification, basic computer proficiency, and the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Preferred qualifications include a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program, previous medical assistant experience, preferably in pediatrics or ambulatory care, and additional language skills.

Physical requirements include the ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds regularly, the ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday, and the ability to bend, kneel, squat, twist, reach, and grip to perform job duties.
