High School Special Education Assistant I – Multiple Locations and Shifts Available (Job ID: 19020) Posted: 6/17/2026 | Closing Date: 07/31/2026 | School Year: 2026-2027 | Location: District Wide Job Overview The Elk River Area ISD 728 is seeking a dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to support our high school teams during the 2026-2027 school year. This role works closely with Special Education Teachers to promote the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of students with diverse learning needs. Key Responsibilities Assist the lead teacher in delivering instructional support based on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Help keep students focused and engaged in both general and special education classroom settings. Implement behavior intervention plans and aid in de‑escalating challenging behaviors. Collect and record data on students’ behavioral and academic progress. Assist students with daily living activities such as feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene when needed. Prepare instructional materials, set up assistive technology, and maintain a welcoming classroom environment. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Must meet Minnesota State Paraprofessional requirements (Associate’s degree, 60 college credits, or ParaPro Assessment pass). Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records. Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
