Cost Segregation Consultant

Withum’s National Tax Services Group is a team of tax specialists dedicated to ensuring accurate and timely tax reporting while minimizing or deferring tax payments. Their comprehensive understanding of international, U.S. federal, state, and local regulations, along with affiliation with HLB International, enables the development of economical tax strategies across all practice areas, including Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, Cost Segregation, International, and Private Client services. As a Cost Segregation professional, you will report to the leader of the Cost Segregation practice and collaborate with a seasoned integrated team of professionals and industry leaders to manage all aspects of engagements and build/maintain client relationships. Responsibilities Perform physical site inspections of properties to take detailed notes, sketches, or measurements and photograph components for IRS audit substantiation purposes. Analyze construction general ledgers, contractor payment applications, and other cost/financial documentation, reconciling the information to various accounting records. Read, interpret, and estimate take‑off quantities from blueprints and other cost information provided by clients. Prepare schedules that support findings in accordance with IRS standards. Meet client expectations by adhering to pre‑established deadlines. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in construction management or electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering preferred. 2+ years of experience in the construction field. Working knowledge of IRS code sections, court cases, revenue rulings, and other tax citations related to cost segregation. Strong understanding of construction design and processes as well as depreciation, to determine appropriate tax lives for building assets in accordance with IRS standards. Knowledge of real‑estate appraisals and valuations. Strong working knowledge of RS Means Cost Estimator, Marshall & Swift, and/or PlanSwift or similar blueprint reading/estimating software. Excellent Microsoft Office skills – Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast‑paced, interactive, results‑based team environment. Ability to travel approximately 25% of the year to project sites. Willingness to train the right professional. Compensation The compensation for this position ranges from $75,000 to $110,000. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and a bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, and the individual’s skills, experience and qualifications.
