Registered Nurse - Stroke

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for a Stroke unit with a 12-bed capacity. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of recent acute care experience, with the ability to support a dynamic and fast-paced environment. First-time travelers are welcome, provided they meet the criteria of having 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care; previous employment as a permanent staff must be separated for at least one year.

Patient Types:

• CVA/TIA in need of TPA administration
• Spinal surgical cases (ACDF, Laminectomy)
• Stepdown unit overflow such as AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, post-Heart Caths

Patient Ratios:

• RN: 1:3
• CNA: 1:9

Required Certifications:

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Skills & Competencies:

• Titratable gtts (Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed) – manager approval required to offer without this experience
• Chest tube management, traches, Peritoneal Dialysis, ISTAT, CSF drains (preferred)
• Ability to PASS an EKG competency exam prior to arrival (includes MedSurg RN skills)

Support Resources on Unit:

• Charge nurse (may have patient assignment)
• Phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, RT, Hospitalist, OT, PT, ST available on site
• Telemetry cardiac monitors in each patient room with remote monitoring backup
• Charting in Meditech Expanse EMR, with IV Pumps (Alaris) and Pyxis medication dispensing system

Floating & Orientation:

• Floating between Stepdown and MedSurg units, ratios of 1:5-6
• Hospital orientation plus 2 twelve-hour shifts for unit orientation

Scheduling & Time Off:

• Work 4 days one week and 3 days the next, including weekend rotations every other week
• Night shifts scheduled on a 5/2 cycle with specific group rotations
• Time off requests up to 7 days are approved with a one-week extension for full-week requests; no more than one weekend RTO per 13-week contract
• No call shifts expected
• Will work 2 out of 3 major holidays

Uniform & Appearance:

• Scrub color: Pewter
• T-shirts: Gray, white, or black with WK monogram (purchase at scrub shops)
• Jackets: Gray or black
• Badges to be worn visible above the waist at all times
