$90kMarin County Bar Association
Status: Part‑Time, Exempt (Approximately 24 hours per week) Compensation: $90,000 annually ($150,000 FTE) Schedule: 3 Days / Week. POSITION SUMMARY The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of the Marin County Bar Association (MCBA) and is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the organization. Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, the ED advances MCBA’s mission by strengthening member engagement, growing revenue through membership and sponsorship programs, overseeing high‑quality educational and networking opportunities, and ensuring the long‑term financial health of the organization. This position is designed for an experienced executive seeking a meaningful, flexible leadership opportunity with significant community impact. The Executive Director provides leadership to staff, volunteers, committees, and members while serving as the primary ambassador for the organization within the legal and broader Marin County communities. This role requires a strategic, collaborative, and highly organized leader who is equally comfortable developing long‑term vision and executing day‑to‑day priorities in a small, mission‑driven organization. MCBA is currently engaged in a focused phase of operational strengthening and program revitalization, with an emphasis on delivering an enhanced, polished, and engaging member experience while increasing the value and relevance of membership across the legal community. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Executive Director reports directly to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and works closely with the Board President and Board leadership. The Executive Director directly supervises the Operations, Events and Communications Manager and oversees external consultants and contractors as needed. MCBA currently operates with a lean staffing structure and a four‑day workweek. The office is closed on Fridays. When fully staffed, MCBA has two part‑time employees. RESPONSIBILITIES The Executive Director: Provides strategic leadership to the organization, working collaboratively with the Board of Directors to advance MCBA’s mission, goals, and long‑range vision. Leads membership recruitment, engagement, retention, and growth initiatives to ensure a vibrant and diverse professional community. Oversees the development and delivery of MCBA programs, continuing legal education offerings, section activities, networking opportunities, and special events. Cultivates and strengthens relationships with sponsors, members, judges, legal professionals, community leaders, and strategic partners. Serves as a primary public representative of MCBA, promoting the organization throughout the legal community and broader Marin County region. Develops and manages the annual operating budget and ensures sound financial stewardship, internal controls, and organizational sustainability. Builds and maintains relationships with sponsors, members, and strategic partners while identifying opportunities to strengthen and diversify organizational revenue streams. Works with staff and volunteers to plan and execute major events, including the Annual Installation Dinner and other signature member programs. Provides leadership in marketing, communications, branding, and public relations efforts to enhance organizational visibility and member value. Supports and strengthens Board governance by providing timely information, strategic guidance, and operational insight to the Board and its committees. Ensures compliance with all applicable legal, financial, employment, and nonprofit regulatory requirements. Recruits, supervises, mentors, and supports staff while fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and collaboration. IDEAL BACKGROUND Successful candidates will bring many of the following qualifications: Five or more years of senior nonprofit leadership experience as an Executive Director, CEO, Association Executive, or comparable role. Demonstrated success in organizational leadership, strategic planning, membership development, sponsorship development, revenue generation, and relationship management. Experience working effectively with volunteer boards, committees, and community stakeholders. Experience in a membership association, professional society, bar association, chamber of commerce, trade association, or similarly member‑driven organization is highly desirable. Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and oversight of organizational resources. Exceptional communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to represent MCBA professionally and effectively in a variety of settings. Emotional intelligence, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to build trust with diverse constituencies. Strong organizational and project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results. Experience planning and overseeing events, educational programming, and member engagement activities is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Marin County or Bay Area nonprofit, legal, professional association, or civic community is preferred. Advanced degree in nonprofit management, business, law, public administration, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent leadership experience will be considered. Because this position requires significant in‑person engagement with members, sponsors, judges, and community partners, Marin County residents are strongly preferred. Candidates residing in neighboring Bay Area counties will also be considered. Specifics Part‑time, salaried. Approximately 24 hours per week. Salary: $90,000 annually (equivalent to $150,000 full‑time salary). NOTE: If we do not find a suitable, part‑time executive we may alter this position and increase the hours. Final compensation will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid time off, medical stipend, and retirement plan. Marin County Bar Association is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to creating a diverse and inclusive company culture. MCBA does not discriminate against candidates and employees because of their disability, sex, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age, veteran status, or any other protected status under the law. #J-18808-Ljbffr
