Nurse Practitioner - Surgical ICU

Maimonides Health Nurse Practitioner

Maimonides Health, Brooklyn's largest healthcare system, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Surgical ICU. The Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care in accordance with written policies approved by nursing/medical administration. The position is full-time, including weekends and holidays, with a shift from 7pm to 7am.

Responsibilities

• Provides age-appropriate care and intervention for patients served according to job description.
• Develops and implements a collaborative practice agreement and performs periodic reviews.
• Assesses the health status of clients/families through comprehensive health history and physical examinations.
• Initiates therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations.
• Provides teaching and counseling in areas of health promotion and disease prevention.
• Documents findings and plan of care in patient's medical record.
• Consults with physician as established in the collaborative practice agreement.
• Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care.
• Initiates hospital admission and discharge after collaborative consultation with physician.
• Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary team to promote optimal patient outcomes.
• Demonstrates accountability for nursing practice.
• Advocates for patients and supports patient rights.
• Serves as a resource person to nurses and other health team members.
• Participates in peer review.
• Participates in approved medical and nursing research studies.
• Participates in defining, maintaining, and interpreting standards of nursing practice.
• Contributes to the maintenance of a positive image of professional nursing in the medical center and in the local community.
• Performs duties and responsibilities in accordance with agreement between Nurse Practitioner and collaborating physician.
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

Other Job Duties

• Keeps knowledge current by self-directed learning and attendance at educational programs.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner Program with NYS licensure and registration.
• 3-5 years RN Surgical Critical Care experience.
• 1-2 years Current NP Critical Care/ICU Surgical experience.
• Current ACLS/BLS.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

• ACGNP.
• ENLS.
