Intern – Water Resources Central Pines Regional Council Durham, NC/In-Office & Site Visits to Member Communities (some remote work allowed) Who We Seek: The Water Resources Intern will support the Clean Water Education Program (CWEP) by delivering interactive stormwater educational lessons to students and adults across CWEP's 44 communities. The selected candidate will also play a role in advancing other water and resilience-related projects in Central Pine's portfolio. Expected timeframe for the internship is 18 to 20 hours per week, until February 31, 2026 – with the opportunity to continue into spring 2027. Description of Work: This role will include working with Clean Water Education Program (CWEP) member governments to coordinate, schedule, and conduct education programs that convey the importance of clean water. Education will include discussing the impact of public behavior on stormwater runoff and water quality and help promote behavior changes in these communities. The selected candidate will have a strong desire to promote education about stormwater runoff and clean water at in person events and across online platforms, and the ability to engage with and speak in public. Additional activities include: Education programs: Develop or customize and deliver interactive stormwater pollution educational lessons (virtually or in person) to students and adults through schools, libraries, continuing education sessions, and other forums. With 44 CWEP members across the state, there are many opportunities to conduct direct education and outreach to increase public awareness of the impact of stormwater management. Stakeholder Engagement: Engage and build relationships with local state government staff and local officials, community-based partners, and environmental groups. Social Media: Share CWEP's educational visits on social media platforms. Other duties : Assist with newsletters and prepare public outreach materials for CWEP partners like posters, stickers, and project profiles. This position will support Central Pines' other water and/or resilience-focused programs in various ways. Work Environment: The Intern will work primarily at Central Pines' office; however, this position will require travel throughout the region to attend meetings and perform work in communities throughout the CPRC region and member communities of the Clean Water Education Program (CWEP). The candidate may be asked to attend night and/or weekend events. Travel will be conducted via a company vehicle or a personal vehicle. If travel is conducted via a person vehicle mileage will be reimbursed at the current Federal rate (currently $0.725 per mile).
