Job Summary


The Accountant III requires a deep knowledge of GAAP, accounting, auditing, budgeting, accruals, amortization, fixed asset accounting, and financial reporting. This position requires a review and reconciliation of complex grants and other advanced accounting functions, budget review and analysis, and will prepare periodic reports as required by the Accounting Manager. This position will also be a primary point person to other accountants for questions on accounting functions and duties.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

1. Prepare, verify, and/or reconcile complex accounts; monitor accounts for necessary compliance.
2. Prepare, review, analyze, and correct journal entries involving federal, state, community funded activities, accruals, amortizations, fixed assets, and bank activity; ensure that all financial activity is compliant with applicable rules and regulations.
3. Perform financial review of incoming and outgoing purchase orders, check requests, price agreements, payment receipts, and petty cash disbursements.
4. Prepare assigned general ledger account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations.
5. Create, review, and update a variety of financial reports, forms, and documents for assigned department activities; compile statistical data and distributes reports to appropriate senior staff or customers.
6. Provide customer service to employees and public; answer questions, review forms and refer issues to appropriate personnel when needed.
7. Responsible for assisting the Finance Department with the annual audit or agency audits.
8. Maintain and update files and computer systems related to assigned division; verify payments, distributions, payroll, and other financial transactions.
9. Prepare fiscal related reports as needed for assigned area; research and verify accuracy of necessary data.
10. Assist with year-end closing for all programs.
11. Assist with setup and implementation of new systems, processes, and procedures, if applicable.
12. Responsible for maintenance and organization of monthly closing documents.
13. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.

Education, Certifications and Experience Required


Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field with five (5) years of experience in government and accounting; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
AND

• Must be proficient in Excel;
• Knowledge of federal and state agency accounting rules and regulations is preferred

Special Requirements:

• Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
• This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends.
