Step into a pivotal role interpreting for middle school students as part of a dedicated educational team. This contract opportunity offers a meaningful part-time schedule—working weekdays from 12:00 to 3:30pm CST—with the exciting potential to grow into a full-time position. Working closely with one student ensures a rewarding, consistent connection, making a direct impact on their educational experience. The position is primarily onsite, though flexibility for virtual interpreting (VOCO) is available based on the candidate’s experience and preferences.

To ensure success in this role, candidates should bring a strong foundation in sign language interpreting, a passion for supporting students, and the ability to adapt to a collaborative school setting.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3.5 EIPA score required
• Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in K-12 or specifically with middle-school aged students
• Ability to foster positive, respectful relationships with students and educational staff
• Comfortable working 1:1, adapting to the unique needs and goals of a single student
• Proficiency with VOCO platforms a plus, but willingness to be onsite is preferred
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to school/district guidelines

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate and sensitive sign language interpretation for a middle school student throughout their school day
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to enhance communication and learning outcomes
• Assist in adapting classroom materials and activities to ensure accessibility
• Advocate for student’s language access needs, promoting inclusion
• Remain flexible to transitions in scheduling and caseload as the role evolves
