HSE Specialist

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Specialist – Evanston, IL (Hybrid: Wednesday & Thursday onsite) Responsibilities Develop, implement, and maintain HSE programs, policies, and procedures. Deliver training to employees on HSE policies, procedures, and best practices. Support investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses, including root cause analysis and corrective actions. Collaborate with HSE team members and cross‑functional teams to address safety concerns and promote continuous improvement. Maintain systems and documentation related to HSE activities, including incident reports, training records, and regulatory permits. Stay informed about changes in HSE regulations and industry best practices and support organizational compliance efforts. Assist in developing and communicating emergency response plans and procedures. Conduct inspections, audits, and corrective action tracking. Contribute to promoting a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability throughout the organization. Analyze trends with HSE metrics and dashboards (e.g., incident rates, training completions, audit findings). Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, or a related field is preferred. Minimum 4 years of experience in Health, Safety, Environment, or a related field. Previous experience in a research or laboratory setting is preferred but not required. Working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations, standards, and best practices. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Basic analytical and problem‑solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to learn and adapt to new systems and processes quickly.
