Recreational Therapy Director oversees the planning and implementation of therapeutic recreational programs designed to improve the physical, emotional, and social well-being of individuals with disabilities or illnesses. They manage a team of therapists, coordinate activities, and ensure that all programs meet the specific needs and goals of the participants.

The Recreational Therapy Director must meet with at least one of the qualifications:

• Be a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional;

• Be eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body;

• Have one year full-time work experience within the last five years in an activities program in an adult care setting;

• Be a qualified occupational therapist or an occupational therapy assistant; or

• Prior to or within six months of employment, have successfully completed 40 hours of department-approved training in adult group activities and in recognizing and assessing the activity needs of residents.

• Supervisory experience preferred
