The Role
Reporting to the CEO and the Director of Strategy & Growth, Utility is seeking an Chief of Staff / Manager of Strategy & Growth to play a strategic leadership role in our dynamic and rapidly growing company. As Chief of Staff, this role will work alongside the CEO and executive team to set annual goals and objectives, track progress throughout the year, and identify enterprise risks and improvement opportunities. The role will also build executive-level internal and external presentations and manage engagement with key external parties, like the Board of Directors.
As Manager of Strategy & Growth, this individual will lead the definition of processes, toolkits, and resource plans to transform performance and drive delivery across the business, working closely with the Director of Strategy & Growth, the Executive Team, functional leaders and staff across the company. This role is also responsible for defining best practices, integrating project management and defining the cadence used to manage the business. Additionally, this person will work with individual Executives and their functions on priority initiatives as defined and agreed with the Executive and the CEO.
The successful candidate will set the tone for exceptional collaboration across the organization and work closely with the Director of Strategy & Growth, the Executive Team and our private equity owners. This role is based in our offices in Houston, TX, with travel to our Technology Center in Denver, CO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work alongside the executive team to set corporate annual goals and cascade those goals to executive and functional goals
- Track executive and functional goals and objectives on a biweekly basis and manage an enterprise performance dashboard to report progress and identify risks to plan
- Develop internal and external strategic stakeholder presentations, including board of director materials
- Work alongside the executive administrative assistant to schedule and coordinate board of director engagement, including quarterly board meetings and recurring updates with private equity investors
- Identify transformation opportunities & develop plans to drive organizational change
- Lead cross-functional teams to manage transformation projects, milestones & deliverables
- Build strong relationships with the Executive team, key stakeholders and employees to gain buy-in & support for transformation initiatives
- Utilize data, including detailed financial models, to inform decision-making and measure the success of strategic initiatives
- Monitor and measure the impact of transformation initiatives, providing regular updates to stakeholders
- Identify and mitigate risks that may impede the success of transformation initiatives
- Act as an internal consultant to the organization to support operational excellence
- Additional strategic projects as assigned
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (engineering, business, finance, supply chain, operations)
- Must have 6+ years of experience in strategy, management consulting or investment banking.
- Experience in business transformation; operational performance improvement end-to-end (from initial planning through implementation and continuous improvement); operational planning / tracking / management processes, toolkits, executive meeting management and ongoing implementation
- Preference for experience in both large and start-up / scale-up company environments
- Strong knowledge of business processes and project management
- Strong financial acumen including managing detailed financial models
- Experience desired in leading or supporting strategic, operational and/or commercial initiatives (e.g., value engineering, manufacturing facility design / construction / commissioning, technology commercialization)
- Excellent leadership & communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
- Experience working across technical, operational and commercial functions and supporting integration of planning, tracking and delivery management, including culture building and reinforcement
