RN - Labor and Delivery


Job Details:


• Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures
• Use evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skilled communication to create the safest patient environment
• Minimum 2 years of experience required; first-time travelers will not be accepted
• Must have Level III Perinatal Care experience - no exceptions
• Care for high-risk mothers and newborns, including patients with placenta accreta, pre-eclampsia, and massive transfusion needs
• Perform tubal ligations, cerclage, hysterectomy support, and assist as secondary nurse for C-section deliveries
• Circulate in vaginal deliveries, surgical recovery, and provide care for newborns
• Patient ratios: 1:1-2 for active labor, 1:3 for antepartum; follows AWHONN staffing guidelines
• Required certifications: BLS, NRP, FHMOB
• Required skills include fetal monitoring, maternal assessments and interventions, cervical exams for labor progression, OB triage, post-partum care, and L&D recoveries
• Charting system and equipment: EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis, Fetal Monitoring, and Epidural Pumps
• No set schedules; must be available to work 7 days a week and be plugged into the schedule where needed
• Every other weekend required; block scheduling and patterned scheduling not guaranteed
• Every other holiday required based on start date
• May float to Postpartum, Women's Care Center, or inpatient women's units; travelers will float first
• Scrubs provided; free designated parking available


Facility:


This facility is a Level IV Trauma Center and Level III Perinatal Center with 228 beds, offering specialized care including a Level III NICU, an Accreta Center of Excellence, and an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center. As a teaching hospital, it provides a dynamic and educational environment for healthcare professionals. The labor and delivery unit consists of 20 beds and is supported around the clock by OB anesthesia, certified nurse midwives, OBGYN providers, respiratory therapy, a house supervisor, charge nurses, and clinical resource nurses.
