Equitas Academy Charter School is seeking passionate educators to join our Special Education team at our 3 schools serving the students and families of Pico Union. The mission of Equitas Academy Charter School is to provide a structured, achievement-based community that prepares students (scholars) to graduate from college-preparatory high schools, four-year colleges and universities. Position Summary:

Provides diagnostic, remedial, and consultative services for scholars with communicative disorders; performs as support staff member in school to determine specific needs of children who display speech, language, and hearing difficulties

Responsibilities:

• Screen scholars for communicative disorders and determine cases according to state and federal guidelines.
• Employ assessment procedures, techniques, and standardized test as necessary to provide accurate diagnosis of communication disorders
• Communicate information to relevant team members, including Director of Special Education, School Director, teachers, and community agencies.
• Conduct thorough triennial assessments of speech/language needs.
• Determine if students are eligible for services in the areas of articulation/phonology, abnormal voice, fluency, and language.
• Provide written reports and data to parents and others as needed.
• Review IEPs on an annual basis, at minimum.
• Help to schedule and notify relevant parties of IEP meetings.
• Provide education, support, and information to parents.
• Schedule and provide either individual and/or group therapy as determined by the IEP team.
• Make appropriate referral if a students performance indicates the need for a more restrictive environment.
• Collaborate with teachers about modifications for scholars with speech/language/hearing needs.
• Arrange for necessary materials and equipment for speech therapy activities.
• Reach out and educate school staff, administrators, parents, and community members about speech/language/hearing needs.
• Attend and participate in internal and external professional development activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• State of California Speech-Language Pathology Credential, CFY/RPE License.
• Familiar with California Education Code, California Code of Regulations and Office of Education schools policies, rules, and regulations regarding programs and pupils
• Experience in auditing and monitoring of compliance for district, state and federal regulations regarding special education, including facilitating IEP meetings, preferred.
• Must be proficient in the use of modern office technology, equipment, and procedures including Microsoft Office, Adobe, basic email and the internet.
• Experience with Welligent preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
