Accounting Manager

Company Description Delaware River Solar (DRS) is a New York State solar company that develops, builds, and operates Community Solar projects that support the State’s energy and climate objectives. Role Description The Accounting Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in New York, NY, with the flexibility to work from home part of the time. In this position, the individual manages day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, preparation and review of financial statements, and oversight of month-end and year-end closing processes. The role includes reviewing and posting journal entries, managing fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for community solar projects. The Accounting Manager collaborates with finance and operations teams to analyze financial performance, support budgeting and forecasting, and maintain compliance with accounting policies and relevant regulations. This role also involves improving accounting processes, supporting audits, and providing clear financial insights to leadership. Qualifications Public accounting experience at a Big 4 firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG) or a comparable national/regional firm is required. Direct, hands‑on experience working with external auditors is required — managing audit requests, preparing supporting schedules, and serving as the primary audit point of contact. A proactive self-starter who spots issues in the books and digs in without being asked, asks clarifying questions early, and follows through without being managed step by step. Comfortable adopting new tools — including AI assistants like Claude — to automate routine work, speed up the close, and improve how the finance function runs. Strong financial reporting capabilities, including preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements. Proficiency in core accounting functions such as journal entries and general ledger management. Experience with finance-related analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to support strategic decision‑making. Knowledge of fixed assets accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and asset tracking. Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and present clear recommendations. Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Excel; experience with ERP systems is beneficial. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certification (CPA or equivalent) is a plus. Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory accounting role; renewable energy or infrastructure experience is advantageous. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
