Sheriff's Community Services Officer II

Overview Sheriff's Community Services Officer II, under general supervision, performs non‑hazardous vehicle code and parking regulation enforcement, special event and emergency traffic control, general traffic and parking control throughout the unincorporated area of Sacramento County, and creates traffic and crime reports. Some positions may be assigned to a city receiving law‑enforcement services from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. Key Responsibilities • Enforce vehicle code and parking regulations. • Manage traffic and parking during special events or emergencies. • Prepare traffic and crime reports. • Serve the public and provide service-quality assistance. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of major streets, highways, districts, and points of interest in Sacramento County. Proficient use of English in speaking, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Customer‑service techniques for dealing with individuals from diverse backgrounds, often in difficult or confrontational situations. Clear, concise verbal and written communication. Interpretation and application of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. Observation, assimilation, memorization, and documentation of pertinent facts and details. Ability to obtain complete information on reported issues and incidents. Maintain courteous and cooperative behavior in adverse situations. Map reading and use. Minimum Qualifications High‑school graduation or satisfactory completion of an acceptable GED. Either: One year of full‑time paid experience explaining rules and laws related to vehicle code and parking enforcement in the public sector; or Or: Two years of full‑time paid experience working directly with the public, interpreting/clarifying rules, regulations, policies, or procedures, and handling complaints daily. If “experience” is referenced, it means full‑time paid experience unless a statement indicates volunteer experience is acceptable. Part‑time paid experience may be accumulated pro‑rated. General Qualifications License Requirement: A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher is required at the time of appointment. Training Requirement: Community Services Officer training conducted or recognized by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department plus one‑on‑one field instruction with an approved training officer must be completed within one year of appointment. Physical Requirements: Stand, walk, and/or sit for long periods. Move with sufficient agility in and out of vehicles and around high‑traffic work areas. Visually distinguish colors and picture resolution quality. Minimum Age Requirement: At least 18 years of age at time of appointment. Working Conditions: Work various locations and shifts to provide 24‑7 coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
