Senior Statistician, Research & DevelopmentThis role offers the opportunity to shape statistical strategy across an innovative preclinical drug development portfolio focused on extending canine healthspan and lifespan. The Senior Statistician will independently lead study design, statistical analysis, modeling, and exploratory research that informs critical R&D decisions. The position combines rigorous statistical methodology with open-ended scientific problem-solving, including endpoint development, target discovery, aging biomarkers, and dose and mortality modeling. You will serve as a key statistical partner to scientists and program leaders while helping establish robust, regulatory-ready data strategies. The role also provides exposure to clinical biostatistics and the opportunity to expand your expertise across the drug development lifecycle. You'll join a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment where statisticians, clinicians, scientists, and technical experts work together on highly novel challenges.Accountabilities:Independently lead statistical design and analysis for preclinical studies, including dose-response, mortality projection, aging biomarker, enrollment, attrition, and survival modeling.Build and apply population PK/PD models, including nonlinear mixed-effects and exposure-response models, to support dose justification and formulation decisions.Conduct exploratory and hypothesis-generating analyses for endpoint development, target discovery, and pathway identification, critically evaluating what the available data can and cannot support.Serve as the statistical point of contact for preclinical studies and cross-functional R&D programs, partnering directly with scientists and program leads.Apply survival analysis, longitudinal and mixed-effects modeling, simulation-based power calculations, and sample size methodologies across preclinical programs.Develop and contribute to reproducible statistical reporting and internal documentation using tools such as Quarto and R Markdown.Support clinical biostatistics activities, including statistical analysis plan development, regulatory strategy discussions, and drafting analysis sections for review.Partner with statisticians, clinicians, and scientists to develop rigorous, regulatory-ready data strategies and analytical outputs.Mentor junior statisticians and contribute to the development of statistical capabilities across the team.Peer-review methodologies from external consultants, manuscripts, and cross-functional deliverables to ensure statistical rigor.Identify and implement opportunities to improve statistical workflows, tools, methodologies, and analytical processes across the preclinical portfolio.Requirements:MS or PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Pharmacometrics, or a related quantitative field.8+ years of relevant statistical experience, with a demonstrated ability to independently manage a preclinical or translational statistics portfolio.Hands-on experience with population PK/PD modeling using tools such as WinNonLin, NONMEM, nlmixr2, Monolix, or equivalent platforms.Strong knowledge of nonlinear mixed-effects modeling and exposure-response analysis.Demonstrated experience in experimental design, survival analysis, longitudinal analysis, and post-hoc statistical analysis.Proven ability to perform exploratory, hypothesis-generating analyses and work effectively with ambiguous data and evolving scientific questions.Strong critical thinking skills, including the confidence to challenge poorly defined endpoints, targets, or analytical assumptions.Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work within regulatory requirements and quality standards.Demonstrated ability to independently learn new statistical methods, tools, and scientific domains.Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain statistical concepts to non-statistical audiences.Fluency in R and/or Python, with experience using R Markdown, Quarto, Jupyter, or similar tools for reproducible reporting.Familiarity with AI-assisted tools and workflows, such as Claude Code.Experience in veterinary medicine, animal health, or translational aging research is a plus.Experience with data validation pipelines and regulatory-facing statistical writing for FDA, CVM, or EMA submissions is desirable.Interest in expanding into clinical trial biostatistics over time.Genuine enthusiasm for contributing to a new and innovative category of veterinary medicine.Benefits:Salary range of $107,000–$164,000 USD.Full-coverage medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents.$1,000 home office equipment stipend.$1,200 annual learning and professional development budget for books, courses, and related resources.$250 monthly wellness budget that can be used for eligible wellness and lifestyle expenses.Four-day weekends when a public holiday creates a three-day weekend.Unlimited vacation and paid holidays.Paid "paw-ternity" leave, including a day off when adopting a dog.Competitive compensation package.Company equity options grant for new hires.Remote work opportunity within the United States.Collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with opportunities to work across statistics, data science, clinical, and scientific teams.Opportunity to contribute to novel research at the intersection of veterinary medicine, aging science, and drug development.
