What will you be doing in this role? Sets up routine HLA procedures using approved procedures and protocols according to career-entry level standards of practice. Operates, calibrates, and maintains laboratory equipment and instrumentation used in routine testing. Validates and documents all personally performed test results according to established manual and electronic data management and reporting procedures. Recognizes basic problems in test methodology and instrument function, initiates corrective actions, and develops the ability to resolve more complex issues with minimal consultation. Uses established quality assurance protocols to ensure the proper functioning of instruments, reagents, and analytical procedures, including performing standards, controls, and instrument function verifications. Prepares reagents, standards, and controls according to prescribed procedures. Acquires a foundational understanding of HLA theory, genetics, nomenclature, laboratory testing procedures, and develops the technical and interpretive skills necessary for advancement. Assists with the collection of research data, as requested. Interacts with physicians and hospital staff to support quality patient care and promote a positive image of the laboratory. Demonstrates a working knowledge of specimen requirements, normal ranges, critical values, and alternative HLA testing strategies. Performs other duties and assignments as requested. Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with at least one (1) year’s coursework in Biological Science or Chemistry, or equivalent experience. No experience required, but applicants with some experience in a clinical or research laboratory preferred.
