Job Details Job ID: 5554687 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Re‑Posted: Mar 03, 2026 5:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional MIDDLE SCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION (SPED) BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION PROGRAM TEACHER who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students, and stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who seek a challenging yet rewarding teaching experience. Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor/administrator, and consistent with the Providence Public Schools’ vision and mission, the Special Education teacher will work in partnership with parents, students, and general‑education teachers to promote student achievement. This position requires Structured Literacy proficiency within one year of hire. Additionally, the Special Education Teacher will: Provide daily instruction based on RI State Standards, the Providence School District curriculum, and student IEPs. Implement, develop, and case‑manage students’ services and IEPs per State and Federal regulations. Salary note: 10 extra days Reports to Principal Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in the applicable field of education from an accredited college or university. RIDE Certification Requirements Elementary Special Education Teacher, Grades KG‑6 Middle Grades Special Education Teacher, Grades 5‑8 Secondary Grades Special Education Teacher, Grades 6‑12 ESL Certification Preferred

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Administer appropriate district curriculum aligned with Rhode Island State Standards. Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in various settings aligned to goals and objectives of the students’ IEPs. Work and teach collaboratively with general‑education teachers and paraprofessionals using co‑teaching, sharing planning and instructional responsibility for all students. Develop and implement IEPs for students with disabilities within regulatory timelines. Complete quarterly progress reports per RI regulations and ensure IEP goals and objectives are implemented. Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment. Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused learning condition. Provide a classroom management/discipline plan ensuring safety at all times. Develop and implement behavioral intervention plans as identified by student need. Integrate technology into the instructional program. Provide individual and group interventions to students in the Response to Intervention Process. Implement scientifically‑based instruction to support the unique academic, social, and behavioral needs of students. Collect, administer and report progress monitoring data for all student goals. Adhere to federal, state, and local mandates in special education. Schedule and case‑manage three‑year re‑evaluations for students with disabilities per state and federal regulations. Ensure that students with disabilities receive a free appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. Conduct, implement and develop alternate assessments consistent with RIDE regulations. Participate in district and school‑based professional development activities. Maintain a web‑based portfolio and outcomes data on all children assigned to the class. Provide daily, authentic pre‑K learning experiences aligned with the RI Early Learning Standards. Participate in timely data input services for Medicaid billing, utilize the web‑based IEP system, and participate in time studies for administrative Medicaid claiming. Use positive behavioral supports as appropriate. Work professionally with administrators, staff, parents, and community. Develop a classroom climate that promotes positive learning conditions. Provide differentiated, developmentally appropriate pre‑K learning experiences aligned with the RI Early Learning Standards. Provide and implement appropriate accommodations for all types of formal assessments. Perform other duties as assigned.
