Allergy & Asthma Nurse Practitioner
The Allergy & Asthma Nurse Practitioner will independently evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with allergic diseases, asthma, chronic respiratory conditions, and immune-related disorders. The provider will develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based clinical guidelines and modern diagnostic testing.
The ideal candidate is passionate about preventive medicine, chronic disease management, patient education, and improving patients' quality of life.
Primary Responsibilities
The selected provider will independently evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients within the scope of Nevada APRN practice.

Allergy Evaluations
Evaluate and manage patients with:
- Seasonal Allergies
- Environmental Allergies
- Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
- Allergic Conjunctivitis
- Chronic Sinusitis
- Recurrent Sinus Infections
- Dust Mite Allergy
- Mold Allergy
- Pet Allergy
- Pollen Allergy
- Insect Sting Allergy
- Latex Allergy
Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical history, diagnostic testing, and current practice guidelines.
Food Allergy Management
Evaluate and manage patients with:
- Peanut Allergy
- Tree Nut Allergy
- Shellfish Allergy
- Milk Allergy
- Egg Allergy
- Wheat Allergy
- Soy Allergy
- Fish Allergy
- Sesame Allergy
- Multiple Food Allergies
- Oral Allergy Syndrome
Provide education regarding allergen avoidance, emergency action plans, and appropriate referrals when indicated.
Asthma Management
Evaluate and treat patients with:
- Mild Persistent Asthma
- Moderate Persistent Asthma
- Severe Persistent Asthma
- Exercise-Induced Bronchospasm
- Occupational Asthma
- Cough Variant Asthma
- Pediatric Asthma
- Adult Asthma
Responsibilities include:
- Development of individualized asthma treatment plans
- Asthma Action Plans
- Medication optimization
- Rescue inhaler management
- Maintenance inhaler management
- Biologic therapy evaluation (when appropriate)
- Long-term disease monitoring
- Patient education
Diagnostic Testing
Perform and interpret diagnostic testing including:
- Allergy Skin Prick Testing
- Intradermal Allergy Testing
- Patch Testing (if offered)
- Pulmonary Function Testing (Spirometry)
- Peak Flow Monitoring
- Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO), if available
- Serum Allergy Testing
- Immunoglobulin Testing
- Additional diagnostic studies as clinically indicated
Immunotherapy
Evaluate candidates for allergen immunotherapy and provide ongoing management, including:
- Allergy Shot (SCIT) evaluations
- Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT), if offered
- Treatment planning
- Monitoring patient response
- Managing adverse reactions
- Adjusting immunotherapy schedules
- Long-term follow-up
Medication Management
Prescribe and manage medications including:
- Antihistamines
- Intranasal corticosteroids
- Leukotriene receptor antagonists
- Bronchodilators
- Inhaled corticosteroids
- Combination inhalers
- Epinephrine Auto-Injectors
- Oral corticosteroids (when clinically appropriate)
- Biologic therapies (when appropriate and within scope)
- Other evidence-based allergy and asthma treatments
Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and adherence while ensuring safe prescribing practices.
Chronic Respiratory Conditions
Evaluate and manage patients with:
- Chronic Cough
- Chronic Rhinitis
- Non-Allergic Rhinitis
- Chronic Urticaria (Hives)
- Angioedema
- Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)
- Allergic Contact Dermatitis
- Recurrent Respiratory Infections
- Eosinophilic Disorders (when appropriate)
Coordinate care with pulmonology, dermatology, ENT, and other specialists as needed.
Patient Education
Educate patients and families regarding:
- Allergy avoidance strategies
- Environmental control measures
- Medication adherence
- Proper inhaler technique
- Nebulizer use
- Asthma Action Plans
- Recognition of severe allergic reactions
- Use of epinephrine auto-injectors
- Prevention of asthma exacerbations
- Lifestyle modifications to reduce allergy triggers
Documentation
- Maintain timely and accurate Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation
- Complete detailed allergy and asthma treatment plans
- Ensure compliance with organizational, state, federal, and payer documentation requirements
- Utilize evidence-based clinical protocols and guidelines
Qualifications
Required
- Active Nevada APRN License
- National Board Certification (FNP, AGNP, Adult NP, or Adult-Gerontology NP)
- Current DEA Registration or eligibility to obtain
- Current BLS Certification
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication and patient education abilities
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Preferred
- Experience in Allergy & Immunology
- Experience in Asthma Management
- Experience performing or interpreting allergy testing
- Experience managing immunotherapy patients
- Experience interpreting spirometry and pulmonary function testing
- Familiarity with AAAAI and ACAAI clinical practice guidelines
- Experience with biologic therapies for asthma and allergic diseases
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
