Assistant Project Manager

Merit Construction, Inc. is an award‑winning Knoxville based General Construction firm with more than 40 years of experience. We currently have a full‑time opening for an Assistant Project Manager. The position is predominantly based in the field. Responsibilities Preconstruction – Work with the project team to prepare for the project start‑up. QAQC – Perform on‑site quality control reviews and ensure adherence to project specifications, using the most up‑to‑date drawings, specs, addenda, and standards. Schedule – Order materials, develop and maintain the project schedule, monitor production, complete reporting, and manage the work of assigned subcontractors and suppliers. Close Out – Organize and complete close‑out activities, including punch lists, warranty issue resolution, O&M manuals, and as‑built drawings. Project Documentation – Verify accurate payment of subcontractors and suppliers, maintain submittal logs, track RFIs, gather dispute and change‑order documentation, photograph the site, prepare status reports, conduct constructability reviews, and produce quantity takeoffs. Project Meetings – Take meeting notes, prepare and distribute minutes, and attend all superintendent and project management meetings. Safety – Demonstrate, communicate, and reinforce company safety policies and procedures, ensuring records are accurately maintained. Qualifications Preferred bachelor’s degree from an accredited construction or civil engineering program. Minimum two years of related experience. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and Word; knowledge of project management and scheduling software is helpful. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and office staff. Ability to plan and organize work effectively, analyze problems, propose reasonable solutions, make logical decisions, and follow up with appropriate feedback.
