Position Summary

Fire Safety Systems is seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer to prepare and maintain technical drawings for fire alarm, life safety, security, and related low-voltage systems. The ideal candidate will have strong AutoCAD skills, the ability to interpret construction drawings and project specifications, and an interest in developing practical, installation-ready design documents.

The CAD Designer will work closely with project managers, engineers, field technicians, and other construction professionals to produce accurate shop drawings, equipment layouts, riser diagrams, wiring details, and as-built drawings. Experience in fire alarm system design is preferred but not required for candidates with a strong drafting background and a willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, revise, and maintain technical drawings using AutoCAD.
• Prepare fire alarm system layouts, device locations, riser diagrams, circuit layouts, and wiring details.
• Review architectural, electrical, mechanical, and reflected ceiling plans to coordinate device placement and identify potential conflicts.
• Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate shop drawings and submittal packages.
• Incorporate project revisions, field markups, redlines, and change orders into drawing sets.
• Assist with equipment layouts, device counts, circuit calculations, and battery calculations as required.
• Coordinate with project managers, field technicians, electrical contractors, general contractors, and other trades to resolve design and installation questions.
• Prepare and update as-built drawings based on field information.
• Assist with technical submittals, equipment schedules, material lists, and project closeout documentation.
• Maintain organized electronic drawing files, revision histories, and project documentation.
• Ensure drawings follow company standards, project specifications, and applicable codes and design requirements.
• Manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D drafting.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and construction drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
• Good organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and PDF drawing review tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in fire alarm, electrical, security, telecommunications, or other low-voltage system drafting.
• Knowledge of fire alarm system components, including control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, power supplies, and addressable circuits.
• Familiarity with NFPA 72 and applicable building and fire codes.
• Experience preparing fire alarm shop drawings, permit drawings, and as-built documentation.
• Familiarity with fire alarm manufacturers such as Edwards/EST, Notifier, Siemens, or other major platforms.
• Experience with Bluebeam Revu or similar PDF markup software.
• Familiarity with voltage-drop calculations, battery calculations, and fire alarm sequence-of-operations documentation.
