Senior Accountant
A well-established and growing organization is looking for a Senior Accountant to join its accounting and finance team in New Haven, CT area. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong accounting foundation who wants broader exposure within a large, multi-entity organization.
The Senior Accountant will be involved in the monthly close, journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed assets, leases, tax-related activities, and general accounting support. The position will also work closely with other areas of the business and participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post monthly journal entries
- Assist with month-end close and financial reporting activities
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies
- Manage accounting for fixed assets and leases
- Assist with sales and tax-related reporting and compliance
- Provide accounting support related to pricing, invoicing, and transaction coding
- Support Accounts Payable and other general accounting activities as needed
- Partner with internal departments to research and resolve financial questions
- Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls
- Work collaboratively with the broader accounting and finance team to meet reporting deadlines
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2+ years of professional accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
- Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations
- Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- Comfortable working with multiple financial systems and large amounts of data
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with different departments and business partners
Preferred Experience
- Experience within a larger, multi-entity or multi-location organization
- Manufacturing experience is a plus, but not required
- Exposure to ERP and financial reporting systems
- Experience with tools such as Power BI, Oracle, Hyperion, OneStream, JD Edwards, or similar platforms is helpful
