Purpose Statement The job of Assistant Coach involves designing and implementing program activities in accordance with applicable rules and regulations related to the sport; providing supervision of student athletes during all aspects of their participation; using sound instructional techniques; and serving as a positive role model. Essential Functions Assess student athletes to provide feedback and determine team placement. Attend meetings, workshops, conferences to receive and convey information related to the role. Communicate with parents, students, officials, administrators and community to provide information, assistance and direction. Instruct student athletes to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Maintain records (e.g., game/student statistics, insurance, permission forms, schedules, equipment inventories) to comply with district, conference, and state requirements. Manage uniforms, equipment, and school facilities to maintain items responsibly and safely. Monitor student athletes’ academic eligibility to comply with AIA requirements and provide intervention for students needing assistance. Supervise student athletes during all participation areas to ensure a low risk of injury. Teach sports techniques, rules, strategies, and tactics to prepare team and individuals for competition. Other Functions Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Adapt to changing work priorities; administer first aid; apply laws, codes, policies; organize and communicate information; basic math; interpret technical information; schedule activities; gather and collate data; operate equipment; problem‑solve; communicate across diverse backgrounds; exhibit leadership; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; enforce sportsmanship; motivate athletes; foster discipline; work extended hours. Responsibility: Work under limited supervision, direct others within a small unit, utilize resources from other units. Work Environment: Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching; 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing; exposure to temperature extremes and injury risk. Experience: Job‑related experience is required. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Testing / Certificates and Licenses: Required testing and continuing education/training as needed. Clearances: Criminal background clearance; Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. FLSA Status – Non Exempt.
