SPECIAL INVESTIGATOR

Salary: $5,528.00 - $9,037.00 per Month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable. Responsibilities Evaluate and investigate civil and criminal allegations and violations of law on behalf of the Office of the California Attorney General, Division of Medi-Cal Fraud and Elder Abuse (DMFEA). Assigned to the Facilities Enforcement Team (FET), ensuring the safety and care of elderly and dependent persons in nursing homes and other long‑term care facilities by prosecuting allegations of systemic fraud, abuse, and neglect. Conduct civil investigations independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team of Special Agents and Deputy Attorney Generals to detect and investigate suspected violations. Obtain and verify evidence to support civil enforcement. Interview witnesses and victims, review and analyze documents, and prepare clear, concise and accurate reports. Testify in civil proceedings and maintain accurate case files. Provide technical assistance and training to team members. Perform assigned tasks skillfully, professionally, courteously, and efficiently, exercising independence, initiative, and excellent judgment. May conduct collateral duties as required; participate in civil litigation tasks as needed. Travel statewide may be necessary. Minimum Requirements List, reinstatement, or lateral transfer eligibility. Completion of a California POST PC 832 Laws of Arrest course following hire. Special Requirements A background investigation must be cleared prior to being hired. Working Conditions Telework is available but contingent on DMFEA's operational needs.
