Scientist I, Biologics Drug Substance Development, Cell Culture Development Full-time Salary: $75,000 – $142,500 per year Workday Global Grade: 15 Compensation: USD 75000 - USD 142500 - yearly Cell culture process development, scale‑up, and technology transfer for GMP applications in the Cell Culture Development Group in South San Francisco, CA. Key Responsibilities Perform inoculum expansion and cell bank generation. Execute cell culture experiments using Ambr250 and 2L bioreactors. Generate pilot scale material using 50L, 200L, and 500L single‑use bioreactors. Carry out small‑scale and pilot‑scale depth filtration and centrifugation primary recovery processes. Transfer Master cell bank generation, cell culture, and primary recovery processes to GMP manufacturing facilities. Provide in‑plant support at the GMP manufacturing facility. Optimize N‑1 perfusion and intensified fed‑batch processes. Represent the group in cross‑functional meetings with cell line, purification, analytical, and formulation teams. Write and review technical reports, GMP campaign summaries, and regulatory filings. Identify and implement platform process optimization opportunities. Present findings at internal or external conferences. Promote a positive laboratory environment and suggest workflow improvements. Required Qualifications Scientific degree in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biotechnology, or a related field. Minimum of 2 years post‑MS or 5 years post‑BS experience. Proficiency in aseptic techniques. Experience in mammalian suspension cell culture processes in shake flasks, Ambr250, and 2L bioreactors. Strong understanding of mammalian cell biology and bioprocess engineering concepts. Excellent attention to detail, a quick learner, and ability to adapt quickly. Experience in technical report writing and review. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and statistical modeling software such as JMP. Preferred Qualifications Experience in perfusion technology, especially alternating tangential flow filtration (ATF) at bench scale. Experience in pilot‑scale operations including single‑use 50L, 200L, and 500L systems and harvest operations. Benefits Competitive salary in the range of $75,000 – $142,500 per year.
