Legal Fellowship

Role

Mountain States Legal Foundation’s Fellowship Program offers a distinctive, practice-focused opportunity for current law students interested in impact litigation related to fundamental constitutional rights, private property rights, government overreach, public lands, and natural resources. 

Fellows work directly with MSLF attorneys to research complex and novel legal issues, draft motions, memoranda, and legal briefs, and assist attorneys with litigation preparation. MSLF also strives, dependent on available case opportunities, to give each fellow the opportunity to work on an amicus brief for the Supreme Court or one of the federal circuit courts, and to attend hearings and oral arguments when possible. Fellows are also provided with numerous networking opportunities within the broader liberty movement, as well as within the Denver legal community.

Although only a limited number of fellowships are offered, placements are available for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. MSLF Fellows should not only have strong legal writing and research skills but also personally identify with MSLF’s mission. Fellows should be seeking a deeper understanding of the legal strategy decisions made by a public interest legal foundation in case selection, development, and litigation. The fellowship is an in-house position and may be offered for credit or on a volunteer basis, depending on the fellow’s law school.
