Mobile Diesel Mechanic II

Position: Mobile Diesel Technician II Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, transmissions, clutches, and differentials. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems and components. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments. Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and confirm proper operation. Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and determine the best course of action using sound judgment. Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on a company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliations. Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections. Work effectively with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems. Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks. Document work performed according to company standards, uploading pictures and details to Repair Orders (RO) via the proprietary TRAIT application. Accurately complete DOT forms and all required documentation in a timely manner. Work independently and manage one's own daily schedule. Maintain a high level of productivity and meet or exceed standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary. Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and retrieve purchase order numbers. Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT). ASE A8 (Engine Performance) ASE L1 (Advanced Engine Performance Specialist) ASE L2 (Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist) Qualifications High School Diploma or GED with three years of relevant experience, or a higher degree or certification combined with five years of experience. At least three years of experience with refrigerated equipment. Must possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties. OEM training and certifications are preferred. Must complete all company–required training. Must pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical, or submit a current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining. Must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver's license, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File. Skills & Abilities Understand implications of new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making. Physical capability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods, including moderate heavy laboring. Communicate information succinctly and organized, engaging in effective two‑way communication. Determine the type of tools and equipment needed for tasks. Accurately judge distances between objects. Use logic and reasoning to evaluate strengths, weaknesses, and alternatives. Compensation Hourly pay rate ranges from $32.07 to $48.13 per hour, varying by location and candidate qualifications. Additional compensation may include commission and incentive programs.
