Mobile Diesel Mechanic II

Cox Fleet, a leading provider of on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide and headquartered in Indianapolis, is hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician II. Duties Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Execute minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials. Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to identify malfunctions using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments. Road test vehicles to confirm proper function and resolve issues. Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and determine accurate diagnoses using sound judgment. Manage parts inventory on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation. Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and complete pre‑ and post‑trip inspections. Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems. Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time appropriately. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application; upload pictures of work performed and parts used. Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation in a timely manner. Work independently and manage a daily schedule. Maintain productivity within standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed. Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for repair estimate approvals, purchase order retrieval, and RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT). Requirements High School Diploma/GED and at least 3 years of experience in a related field, or equivalent education/experience combination. Minimum 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment. Possess and supply a comprehensive set of hand tools required for job duties. OEM training and certifications preferred. Participate in and complete all company‑required training. Candidate must complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or submit a current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining. Age 21 years or older (interstate operating authority requirement). Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File. Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions. Compensation Hourly pay range: $32.07 – $48.13 per hour. The base rate may vary by location and candidate qualifications. Additional compensation may include commission and incentive programs.
