Sous Chef

Hunters amp; Gatherers is looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen leadership team and become part of BakeChop Co. , a growing hospitality company with multiple restaurant and catering concepts throughout Downtown DeLand.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to grow with a company, take on more responsibility over time, and build a long-term career within our concepts.

Hunters amp; Gatherers is one of Downtown DeLand’s favorite restaurants, known for great food, great vibes, and an awesome hardworking team. We’re currently open Tuesday through Saturday , with plans to add Mondays in the near future.

We’re looking for someone who can cook, lead, teach, organize, and jump in wherever needed. This is not a position for someone who only wants to supervise from the sidelines. Our Sous Chef needs to be comfortable working the line, knocking out prep, helping with ordering, training the team, and doing whatever it takes to have a successful service.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong professional kitchen experience, preferably in a lead or sous chef role

• Refined cooking skills and strong attention to detail

• Excellent time management and organization

• Ability to create beautiful, creative, and delicious specials

• Ability to stay positive and professional even during stressful services

• Comfortable working every station on the line and assisting with prep

• Strong knowledge of proper cooking techniques and food safety

• Experience breaking down and fileting fish and portioning proteins

• Ability to teach cooking techniques and develop less-experienced cooks

• Experience with ordering, inventory, pars, and controlling waste

• Familiarity with scheduling; we currently use 7shifts

• Strong communication and leadership skills

• Ability to hold standards while still being a positive presence in the kitchen

• Someone who takes ownership and sees what needs to be done without always being asked

What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading and supporting line execution during service

• Maintaining consistency, presentation, and food quality

• Creating and executing weekly and seasonal specials

• Training and developing kitchen staff

• Assisting with scheduling and BOH staffing

• Ordering, receiving, inventory, and maintaining appropriate pars

• Breaking down fish and proteins

• Managing prep and ensuring the kitchen is ready for service

• Maintaining cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards

• Helping hold the team accountable while maintaining a positive kitchen culture

• Stepping into whatever role is needed to get the job done
