Orientation Leader

Responsibilities The Orientation Leader (OL) is an integral part of the new student orientation team within the First‑Year Experience office and facilitates the integration of new students and families into the University of Alaska Anchorage. Serve as a positive peer leader and mentor for first‑year students at the University of Alaska Anchorage Lead Howl Days new student orientation sessions for incoming students (present information and lead activities) Lead campus tours both in‑person and virtually Reach out and connect with prospective and incoming students via phone and email Assist with the development and implementation of new student orientation activities Coordinate and facilitate Seawolves Connect, a peer mentorship program that allows students to meet 1‑on‑1 with an Orientation Leader Work in partnership with UAA campus partners to support students in understanding course placement options and registering for classes Serve as a campus resource by learning and sharing information about departments and resources across campus Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Intermediate knowledge of computers and software Ability to work on computer and phone for extended periods Ability to learn from and relate respectfully with people of your own culture and those from other cultures Desire to develop leadership skills Effective communication and excellent customer service skills Can lead projects and make challenging decisions when the supervisor is not available Ability to develop and implement new student engagement opportunities with the support of a supervisor Ability to work with limited supervision Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (with or without reasonable accommodation) Networking abilities to serve as a liaison with various departments and resources on and off campus Ambassador for the university Good verbal and written communication skills With training, ability to lead, plan, and organize orientation program sessions Minimum Qualifications Enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment, or Enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee Students enrolled in non‑traditional programs of study will be considered eligible with approval of the Senior Student Services officer Provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility Position Details Open to undergraduate students only Level 2 Step 16, $15.26 per hour Orientation Leaders work May5,2026 through August22,2026 Full participation (40 hr/week) in training May5–29,2026 is required During the summer, may work up to 40 hrs per week and are required to work a minimum of 30 hrs per week Participation in all Howl Days orientations is required Time‑off exceptions only with prior supervisor approval After the summer orientation season ends, some leaders may work throughout the school year (15–20 hrs/week) if invited to continue Special Instructions To Applicants Priority consideration for applications received by March2,2026.
