Position Title: Commercial Field Service Technician – Doors & Hardware

Salary/Pay Rate: $28.00 – $42.00+ per hour (Based on Experience)

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, mechanically skilled Commercial Field Service Technician to install, troubleshoot, service, and repair commercial doors, frames, storefront systems, and architectural hardware.

This is a hands-on field position for someone who knows how to diagnose problems and make repairs in real-world commercial environments. You'll work with hollow metal doors and frames, aluminum storefront systems, commercial entry doors, closers, exit devices, locks, hinges, pivots, electric strikes, and related architectural hardware.

We're looking for someone who is comfortable working independently in the field, communicating directly with commercial customers, and taking ownership of service calls from diagnosis through completed repair.

Candidates with automatic pedestrian door experience and AAADM Certification are especially encouraged to apply.

How You Will Make an Impact

• Commercial Door Installation & Service
• Install, repair, adjust, and maintain commercial doors, frames, entry systems, and associated hardware
• Troubleshoot door alignment, fitment, latching, closing, and other mechanical or operational issues
• Service and repair hollow metal steel doors and frames
• Install and service aluminum storefronts and glass aluminum doors
• Make field adjustments to doors, frames, hinges, pivots, closers, locks, and other components
• Remove and replace damaged or worn commercial door components
• Complete service work efficiently while maintaining clean, professional installations
• Architectural Hardware
• Install, adjust, troubleshoot, and replace commercial architectural hardware
• Work with panic bars and exit devices
• Install and service mortise and cylindrical locks
• Adjust and replace surface-mounted and concealed door closers
• Install and service pivots, hinges, latching components, and related hardware
• Install and troubleshoot electric strikes and applicable electrified door hardware
• Follow manufacturer templates, cut sheets, specifications, and work orders to ensure proper installation
• Automatic & Specialty Doors
• Install, adjust, tune, troubleshoot, and service automatic pedestrian doors when qualified
• Diagnose mechanical and operational issues affecting automatic entry systems
• Follow applicable manufacturer procedures and safety requirements
• Perform automatic door service in accordance with applicable industry standards and training
• Field Service & Customer Support
• Travel to commercial customer locations to complete scheduled service calls and installations
• Diagnose problems in the field and determine appropriate repair solutions
• Communicate professionally with commercial clients, facility managers, dispatch, and other project personnel
• Clearly document completed work, necessary repairs, and additional service needs
• Follow assigned work orders and maintain communication regarding job progress
• Represent the company professionally at customer facilities and active jobsites
• Tools, Vehicle & Safety
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and specialized cutting, drilling, and alignment equipment
• Maintain an organized and professional work area while performing service
• Keep assigned service vehicle clean, organized, and adequately stocked with necessary tools, equipment, and commonly used parts
• Follow company safety procedures and applicable jobsite requirements
• Properly handle and move heavy commercial doors, frames, glass, and hardware

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Proven hands-on experience using hand and power tools safely and accurately
• Strong mechanical aptitude and field troubleshooting abilities
• Ability to diagnose mechanical and operational problems on active commercial jobsites
• Comfortable reading and following work orders, manufacturer templates, cut sheets, and installation instructions
• Ability to accurately measure, align, adjust, drill, cut, and install mechanical components
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in the field
• Professional communication skills when interacting with customers, facility managers, dispatch, and other trades
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Ability to lift and maneuver doors, frames, hardware, and materials weighing 75+ lbs
• Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, lift, carry, and remain on your feet throughout the workday

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

Candidates with direct commercial door and hardware experience will receive strong consideration, particularly those with experience in:

• Hollow metal doors and frames
• Aluminum storefront and glass aluminum door systems
• Commercial door installation, repair, and service
• Panic bars and exit devices
• Mortise and cylindrical locks
• Concealed and surface-mounted door closers
• Hinges and pivot systems
• Electric strikes and electrified door hardware
• Architectural hardware installation and retrofitting
• Commercial storefront construction or service
• Automatic pedestrian door installation and service

AAADM Certification (American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers) is highly preferred, particularly for candidates with hands-on experience installing, tuning, troubleshooting, and servicing automatic pedestrian doors.

Transferable Experience

We are also interested in mechanically skilled candidates whose experience may come from closely related trades, including:

• Commercial glass and glazing
• Storefront installation
• Commercial locksmithing
• Access control and electrified hardware
• Commercial carpentry
• Door and frame installation
• Automatic door service
• Commercial building maintenance or facilities service

Direct commercial door experience is preferred, but strong mechanical ability and relevant field experience may also be considered.

Compensation within the range will be determined by overall experience, commercial door and hardware knowledge, technical capabilities, and applicable certifications.
