Kurdish Reviewer/Editor/Certifier, DOJ LSS

Summary The Unconventional (TU) is seeking a qualified Kurdish Reviewer/Editor/Certifier to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS). The role involves translating all manner of documents and media content—including legal, medical, scientific, financial, and administrative materials—and providing ancillary services such as court and deposition interpretation. Source material will be legal in nature and may be provided in a variety of formats. Responsibilities Translate written documents, electronic and hard copy materials, and multimedia presentations from Kurdish to English and vice versa. Transcribe audio and video recordings, including .wav files, compact discs, SMS, MMS, and email correspondence. Interpret legal and administrative content for courts, depositions, and law enforcement activities. Ensure translations are factually and conceptually accurate, preserve tone and register, and adhere to specialized terminology across subject areas. Maintain strict confidentiality and security controls for all sensitive material. Utilize Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, primarily SDL Trados Studio, with reference to monolingual resources and online databases. Qualifications Minimum five (5) years of recent experience (past ten years) in Kurdish with superior English proficiency and editing skills. Qualifying ILR 4 score or equivalent on language/translation tests. Residency: lived 3 of the last 5 years in the United States. At least one year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department. U.S. citizenship required. Deep knowledge of formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, casual, colloquial, and specialized vocabulary in both languages. Expertise in research and analytical skills for critical terminology judgments. Professional command of both languages; write fluently in native tongue while maintaining command of the non‑native language. Adherence to translation ethics codes. Proficiency with SDL Trados Studio and other CAT tools. Clearance Active Public Trust or higher security clearance required. Location Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations. Travel Some travel may be required. Job Type Part‑time, Non‑Exempt.
