ELIGIBILITY SPECIALIST I

Working Title: Eligibility Specialist I – 60044953 Salary: $1,392.96 bi-weekly, $36,216.96 annually Job Summary Families in need and in crisis require time‑sensitive actions from strong, compassionate individuals who are dedicated to assisting the vulnerable and promoting self‑sufficient families. This role involves determining the eligibility of applicants for government assistance programs and processing applications under state and federal requirements. Key Responsibilities Interview applicants to determine eligibility for Food Assistance, Medicaid, and Cash Assistance Learn and apply state and federal program regulations through training Instruct clients on form completion and review submitted applications Determine eligibility using a computer‑based system Research information provided by applicants to confirm eligibility status Report cases with suspected identity theft or fraud Advise clients on deadlines and required actions Manage clients who do not meet required time frames Create and maintain electronic files and update regularly Document all communications and contacts with clients Manage caseload while maintaining accuracy and meeting specified time frames Compute and authorize benefits based on financial and family status; explain monthly benefit amount to customers Stay current with changes in rules, laws, procedures affecting timeliness and accuracy Provide face‑to‑face contact with clients as required Qualifications Two years of experience in customer service, interviewing, recruiting, investigating, accounting, processing insurance or determining eligibility; or an associate degree or higher; or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours to substitute for experience Ability to attend an 8 to 12‑week mandatory training course Additional Requirements All eligible candidates must complete the skills assessment within 3 days of receiving the link Typing test: measure speed and accuracy General Aptitude Mobile Evaluation (GAME): assess critical thinking, problem‑solving and learning ability Employee Personality Profile (EPP): assess personality traits Hired candidates may be eligible for telework after nine months, training completion, and performance expectations met Language proficiency may be considered per agency needs Incumbent may be required to work during emergency situations or natural disasters Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Apply laws, rules, regulations governing multiple assistance programs Review images for eligibility determinations Communicate with others to verify data Detect potential fraud Analyze written, numerical, and verbal data Enter data accurately into a computerized system Navigate computer screens, complete and review documents Plan and organize caseload to meet regulations Understand complex regulations and policy directives Perform accurate mathematical computations Establish cooperative relationships with public and staff Use computers and related software packages Follow written and oral directions Candidate Profile Include supervisor names and phone numbers for all periods of employment Explain gaps in employment to avoid delays Provide verifiable experience, education, training, knowledge, skills, or abilities; pre‑qualifying questions must be answered accurately Do not use the statement "See Resume" in place of work history Contact People First Service Center if experiencing problems applying Benefits Competitive salary and benefits package Opportunities for advancement and professional development Telework eligibility after initial period for qualified employees Location Belle Glade, FL, 33430 EEO Statement The State of Florida is an equal opportunity employer.
