COMPTROLLER OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS

This position is for an Accounts Examiner III in the Taxpayer Services Division, located in our call center at the LBJ Building, 8th Floor, Austin, Texas. The role involves providing customer assistance regarding taxes administered by the Comptroller, including sales tax, franchise tax, and other taxes and fees. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, 40 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend hours. Telework is available after a 6‑month probationary period. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college Two (2) years of full‑time experience in a customer‑service focused environment involving account information, customer satisfaction, or research for problem resolution Preferred Qualifications Degree in accounting or business management from an accredited four‑year college or university Experience with taxes and fees administered by the Comptroller’s Office Bookkeeping or accounting skills Handling 50–100 inbound calls per day Call‑center experience providing customer‑service related calls focused on account information or customer satisfaction Effective communication in Spanish Substitutions One (1) year of full‑time experience may substitute for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education, up to a maximum of 120 semester hours. Licenses and Certifications N/A In this role you will: Provide customer service to taxpayers Interpret requests for information related to tax forms, tax rules and procedures, exempt status, and account status Research tax laws, rules, and taxpayer account information Convey information to taxpayers Provide printed information concerning laws, rules, and procedures Perform complex mathematical computations for taxpayer accounts Perform research and administrative functions, analyze the status of taxpayer accounts, and interpret computer‑generated information to respond to taxpayer requests Complete ongoing training to keep abreast of tax law changes Perform other related duties as assigned Maximize Your Earnings!
