RFFA Organizer- Philadelphia

Vote Blue

Job Description

Job Description

Location and Timeline: We are hiring full-time Field Organizers to begin mid October and continue through Election Day, including post-election debrief days. The locations are Philadelphia, PA This will expand over the program, so if you live further away or are willing to relocate to Philadelphia, PA for the campaign, please still apply! Relocation is available for qualified full-time applicants.

Who We Are: Vote Blue is a field firm specializing in face-to-face canvassing operations. At Vote Blue, we mobilize voters to get to the polls. Our field campaigns have provided the margin of victory in close elections at the local, state, and national levels. Trump and Republicans at all levels of government are stomping on our rights, making everything unaffordable so a few billionaires can get even richer, and dismantling the very fabric of our nation. Vote Blue's sole focus is on mobilizing and engaging voters to participate in the elections this fall and fight back at the ballot box.

General Overview:
We are currently seeking Field Organizers to join us on an important and exciting campaign to build and lead the canvass teams talking to voters in Philadelphia, PA and encouraging them to Vote Blue in the upcoming November elections. We are hiring for multiple organizer positions in multiple cities throughout the state.

Voter Contact: Help us turn out Democrats in Pennsylvania to get out the vote and win! Pennsylvania played a pivotal role in the last election, and we know it will again this year. By supporting Democrats, we have the chance to make a significant impact. Join us as we work to win this election!

Reproductive Rights:

We're working to ensure that everyone can live, thrive, and raise families in healthy communities. When people can make decisions about their own reproductive health care, they have more control over their economic security, their health and well-being, and can build the future they see for themselves.

Politicians have no business interfering with private health care decisions. We're fighting to stop this government intrusion and put the power back in the hands of the people.

There is a lot at stake this election, and we need your help organizing members of your community to ensure reproductive rights are protected and restored across the nation! Come join us as we work to protect democracy this election season!

Field Organizers are responsible for building and leading a canvass team that talks with voters face to face and encourages them to Vote Blue in November. You'll start by recruiting and training your team, then lead daily voter contact shifts, coach canvassers and team leads, and drive turnout through Election Day. You'll also have your own door-knocking goals, with at least four of your own canvass shifts each week. As your team grows, they'll be out on the doors with you.

What You'll Do:

Recruit, Train, and Lead a Canvass Team

  • Recruit canvassers through calls, texts, and in-field recruitment in the community and on local campuses.
  • Run canvass trainings on voter conversations, messaging, and safety practices.
  • Coach canvassers in the field and develop team leads.
  • Keep meticulous track of your roster and shift schedule so no canvasser falls through the cracks.
  • Build relationships with community leaders and partner organizations to support recruitment and turnout.

Drive Voter Contact

  • Knock doors on at least 3 of your own shifts each week and hit personal voter contact goals.
  • Plan turf and shifts backwards from daily and weekly door and contact goals.
  • Talk with voters about what's at stake this election, [including reproductive rights,] and encourage them to Vote Blue.

Organize Get-Out-the-Vote Actions

  • Plan and run canvass launches and GOTV weekends.
  • Nail 100% of all messaging and legal requirements and ensure that your team does the same.

Manage Data and Reporting

  • Use Google Suite, VAN, peer-to-peer texting, and relational organizing tools.
  • Track everything: doors knocked, contacts made, shifts completed, and canvasser attendance.
  • Report numbers daily and write weekly reports on campaign results.

Who You Are & Keys to Success (the must-haves):

Relationship Building: You develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with a diverse group of local and statewide community members. You are attentive and empathetic to the communities we serve, regardless of race, ethnicity, class, gender, or ability, and can identify shared values across communities for collective growth. You build authentic relationships through reliability, and you're comfortable talking with voters, including those who don't agree with you, about what's at stake this election.

Inclusive and Collaborative Leadership: You approach leadership with a "power with" mindset that recognizes the impact power hierarchies have in different settings. You can learn from others, see and hear other perspectives, and step in or step back as necessary. You are reliable and accountable, always transparent about your abilities, capacities, and expectations. You honor the time and commitments of others while inspiring them to meet goals.

Commitment to Equity and Inclusion: You have a proven ability to develop meaningful connections with diverse communities, including community organizations, leaders, and members. You work with the community and within the workplace to identify areas of improvement for a more equitable environment. You take continued action to improve your REI knowledge, skills, and tools.

Drive to Achieve Results: You have experience accomplishing ambitious goals and getting results, even when there are obstacles. You can plan backwards to meet multiple goals timely and effectively. When there are unexpected changes, you bounce back and adjust quickly, learning and improving from any mistakes.

Organization and Attention to Detail: You keep yourself organized while juggling multiple priorities, track interactions with detailed notes, and plan ahead for roadblocks.

Skills and Experiences We Expect of All Staff:

  • Commitment to equity and justice.
  • Experience bringing a lens of inclusivity to all of your interactions with colleagues and community members.
  • Passion for the role that your work plays in creating change in the world.
  • Kindness and consideration for others.
  • Drive to work collaboratively: learning from others; stepping in or stepping back when needed.
  • Transparency: comfort admitting what you do and don't know, your capacity, and abilities.
  • Task management: able to adapt to evolving needs and break big-picture goals into smaller pieces.
  • Organized and efficient: able to manage multiple goals at once in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Effective written and spoken communication that is clear, concise, and honest.
  • Comfortable and excited to speak about the campaign publicly.
  • Coachable learning mentality: willing to pick up new skills on the job and learn from mistakes.
  • Understanding of how your words and actions affect others, including awareness of power language and communication accessibility.

Requirements:

  • Based in or willing to relocate to Philadelphia, PA for the duration of the campaign.
  • Available to work 40–60 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays, from September through Election Day.
  • This role requires regular driving. All staff who drive must be approved based on their driving record, which requires a valid driver's license, car insurance, and no motor vehicle moving violations in the past 3 years. We prefer candidates with reliable access to their own vehicle, but a rental can be provided if needed.
  • Previous organizing experience is a plus but not required. We welcome entry-level candidates who have demonstrated leadership, strong interpersonal skills, and a track record of reliability through work, volunteer, academic, or community experience.

Nice-to-Haves, but Not Required:

  • Organizing or canvassing experience in or around Philadelphia, PA.
  • Experience on electoral, nonprofit, or issue campaigns.
  • Experience managing or coaching a team.
  • Experience with campaign tools such as VAN, ThruText, Action Network, or EveryAction.
